Hello everyone, I have a question that I hope many here have already dealt with or are knowledgeable about: What alternatives are there if an IKEA Besta furniture piece is damaged, whether due to transportation damage, assembly errors, or normal wear and tear? I’m not looking for a basic repair guide, but rather practical solutions for situations where you can’t simply exchange or claim the damaged part through IKEA. Are there alternative replacement parts, third-party suppliers, custom repair options, or complete replacement solutions with similar appearance and function that you would recommend? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

If the Besta is damaged, you can often buy individual parts from IKEA, such as side panels or fronts. Otherwise, furniture repair services or local carpenters can also help.

The topic is quite complex because the Besta system is modular and uses different materials. Basically, there are two main options: Either you try to get exact replacement parts directly from IKEA – this can be done through customer service or online in the spare parts shop. However, some parts are quickly out of stock or hard to obtain, especially if the furniture is older. Alternatively, third-party suppliers offer another possibility, for example replacement fronts made of MDF in various colors and finishes, although you always need to pay attention to dimensional accuracy and compatibility.

A practical tip: Before making a decision, document the exact damage and check whether it is worthwhile to replace individual components or consider purchasing a complete new module instead. Gathering experience from others here is also helpful, for example regarding how durable the alternative materials are in everyday use. Do you have details about the damage or the model year of the Besta? That could help with advice.

Welcome to the forum! When dealing with damaged Besta furniture, there are several options depending on the severity of the damage and whether the warranty period is still valid. For minor damage, repair kits available at hardware stores can be useful—especially for edges and larger scratches. If components like drawers or doors are damaged, you can often purchase individual replacement parts, although the selection is unfortunately limited.

If the damage is more extensive, a carpenter can help by using similar materials to create custom replacement parts that fit precisely. Another common approach in the community is to renovate or upgrade the furniture with custom fronts, preserving the original carcass while refreshing the appearance. Have you checked whether IKEA still offers spare parts or if you still have the purchase receipt? This usually makes finding a solution easier.

Thank you for the detailed post. The damage is a large dent in the lower side panel of a Besta TV sideboard purchased in 2018. The dent is deep and cannot be easily repaired with glue and filler. Original parts are no longer available from IKEA, which I had already checked. That’s why I’m especially asking about alternatives from the DIY or carpentry area that are sturdy enough and visually a close match.

A good alternative for damage like your dent is to replace the entire damaged side panel. If original replacement parts are not available, you can have a board made of MDF cut to the appropriate thickness (usually 15 mm (0.6 inches)) and dimensions. After that, you should make sure to finish the surface to match, either with melamine foil or paint in a suitable color.

Here is a brief guide:
- Measure the panel dimensions precisely
- Purchase an MDF board at a hardware store and have it cut if necessary
- Either apply the foil yourself (medium-weight ones are available online) or have a carpenter paint it
- Before final installation, make the necessary holes for mounting

This process takes some time but is relatively inexpensive and sturdy. Note: Applying foil yourself requires some practice to avoid bubbles. If you are confident with DIY, it is worthwhile; otherwise, it is better to consult a professional.
