menarHello everyone,
I have several Pax wardrobes from Ikea with melamine and laminated surfaces, and I’m wondering what the best way is to clean these pieces of furniture without damaging the surface.
My main questions are:
- Which cleaning products are suitable, and which ones should be avoided?
- Is it okay to use strong all-purpose cleaners or abrasives?
- How can I deal with stubborn stains without making the surface dull or unattractive?
- Are there any specific cleaning methods or home remedies that have proven effective?
I want to be as gentle as possible, but of course, the wardrobes should still get thoroughly clean.
Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

- Using a soft cloth with warm water and a mild dish soap.
- Avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- For stubborn stains, a 1:1 mixture of water and vinegar can be effective, but test carefully first.
- Wiping the surface thoroughly with clean water afterward.
This method will not damage the surface.

Hey menar,
I usually clean my Ikea Pax made of melamine like this:
- First, wipe the surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth. This is often enough to remove dust or light dirt.
- If it needs a bit more cleaning, I add a few drops of mild dish soap to the water. Important: Don’t use too much water to avoid getting moisture on the edges.
- For really stubborn stains, sometimes a small amount of vinegar essence in the water helps, but be careful: always test on a hidden spot first, as it can damage the finish.
I can only confirm that vinegar isn’t a cure-all, but it’s often very helpful.
One last tip: always dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. This also helps extend the life of your nice Pax furniture! 😉

Hey everyone!
I think melamine and laminate are like the cool but somewhat delicate colleagues among furniture surfaces. You don’t want to attack them with harsh chemicals, but rather treat them gently. 🧼✨
My favorite method:
- A microfiber cloth that’s gentle on your skin – uh, I mean the furniture.
- Warm water with a splash of mild dish soap, usually enough for everyday cleaning.
- For stubborn stains, sometimes a little isopropyl alcohol on a cloth helps, but wipe it off quickly and don’t let it soak in!
Exactly! Moisture can quickly ruin the mood of laminate or melamine foil. So don’t work with too much water and lovingly dry the furniture afterwards. 😊
If you’re up for a little DIY: a paste of baking soda and water can gently help remove stains – but please don’t scrub like you would on windows, or the surface won’t stay smooth.
Hope this helps! Good luck maintaining your cabinets!
