Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install LED strips to illuminate my Ikea Metod kitchen and wanted to ask for tips here in the forum on the best way to do this. Specifically, I am interested in how to most effectively position the LED strips to optimally light both the countertops and the kitchen cabinets. I am looking for advice on both the placement and the choice of the right brightness and color temperature. Are there particular models or mounting methods that are especially suitable? I am also interested in questions about wiring and power supply. Thanks in advance for your support!

I have two longer wall cabinets, each about 120 cm (47 inches) wide. Do you think the LED strips should be divided into two sections and connected in parallel? Yes, that’s exactly how I would do it. 120 cm (47 inches) is quite a long length for LED strips. This way, you avoid the light getting dimmer at the end.

Where can you find such covers? Ikea doesn’t offer them, right? These frosted covers are available online or in well-stocked hardware stores as accessories for LED aluminum profiles. They are also called ‘diffuser covers’ or ‘opal covers.’ They are usually flexible plastic channels that snap onto the aluminum profile. This gives you much more even and pleasant lighting.
I think LED strips under upper cabinets are the perfect finishing touch when done right! 😊 It’s best to install the strips so that the light gently shines forward and onto the countertop, allowing you to position your hands comfortably while cutting. Frosted diffuser covers not only provide a more pleasant light but also look much more elegant than bare LEDs. And a little tip from me: if you use dimmable LEDs, definitely get a remote control as well – it greatly increases convenience! Good luck with your project!
