Hello everyone, some time ago I installed an Ikea Metod kitchen with glass fronts. Now I’m wondering about the most efficient and gentle way to clean the glass fronts without leaving residues, streaks, or risking any damage. Which cleaning methods have proven effective for glass fronts, what should definitely be avoided, and are there any particular products that are especially recommended? So far, I have used regular glass cleaners, but often unsightly streaks remain, or the frame develops marks that are difficult to remove. I’m also interested in tips for preventing fingerprints and similar marks. Thanks for your experiences and advice.

I would simply use warm water with a little dish soap, clean with a soft microfiber cloth, and then wipe down with a dry cloth. Avoid using glass cleaner with alcohol to prevent damage to seals and frames.

Hello Rutoken, your concern is understandable, as glass fronts, especially in Ikea Metod kitchens, are commonly used and the combination of glass and plastic frames requires a more delicate cleaning approach. Here is a structured method for you:

- First, wipe the surfaces with a slightly damp, lint-free microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt.
- For heavier dirt, a mild dish soap solution in warm water can be used. Be sure not to spray water directly onto the front; instead, dampen the cloth.
- After cleaning, carefully dry the surface with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to avoid streaks.
- To prevent fingerprints, wipe regularly and consider avoiding glass sealants, as some sealants combined with cleaners can cause streaking.

What to avoid: aggressive cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, abrasive sponges, or scouring agents. These can damage the glass surface and especially the frame.

In summary: use mild cleaning solutions, minimal moisture, gentle cloths, and thorough drying. This way, your glass fronts will stay clean and look good for a long time.

That hits the nail on the head! I would add that it’s best to avoid dry cleaning so the dust doesn’t scratch the surface. And honestly, a light spray of glass cleaner onto the microfiber cloth (not directly on the surface!) works wonders.

Also, playing good music or enjoying a cup of tea while cleaning makes the task much more relaxing! 😉

Additionally: Please avoid leaving micro-scratches on the glass—don’t use kitchen roll or paper towels, as they are too abrasive.
