Hello everyone, I recently purchased the IKEA Metod kitchen system and want to install the drawers with the soft-close feature. My question is quite specific: How exactly does the installation of the Metod drawers work, especially with the integrated soft-close mechanism? I have the standard Metod drawer sets and the soft-close runners, but I find the IKEA instructions a bit brief and want to make sure I don’t miss any important steps or make mistakes during the adjustment.
I’m also interested in any special tips for installation, such as how to properly hang and precisely align the drawer fronts so that the soft-close works correctly and quietly. Perhaps there are also tricks to optimize the drawer’s smooth movement or to avoid errors, for example with aligning the runners or with screwing.
Thank you very much for your help!

If the front panel is positioned too far forward, the self-closing mechanism will not work properly; if it is too close, the drawer will stick or not slide smoothly. A moderate gap of about 1 mm (0.04 inches) is usually ideal.

For optimal soft closing, the front panel should fit flush with the cabinet body without large gaps or have about a 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 inch) clearance so that the closing mechanism works properly. Thank you, that helped me a lot; I was able to adjust it more precisely. One more question: Are there any special considerations regarding the installation order when mounting multiple staggered drawers in a Metod kitchen unit? I have three drawers stacked vertically and want to avoid the fronts interfering with each other’s movement or blocking the soft closing function.

I have 3 drawers stacked vertically and want to prevent the fronts from interfering with each other’s movement or the soft-close mechanism from getting blocked. When installing multiple drawers stacked vertically, it is important to ensure that the fronts are mounted individually and without overlap as intended.
- Each drawer front should be precisely aligned at the designated mounting points.
- The gaps between the drawers should be evenly maintained so that no front hits another when closing.
- The soft-close mechanisms will work independently for each drawer, provided the slides are installed correctly and are neither bent nor misaligned.
- Additionally, I recommend opening and closing the drawers several times under full load to make sure nothing sticks.
There is no specific installation order required, but high accuracy in aligning each drawer front is essential.
