Hello everyone,
I am planning to install IKEA Metod kitchen or cabinet units in my bedroom under a sloped ceiling and I’m a bit unsure about how to modify these cabinets so they fit perfectly and remain stable. My sloped ceiling is quite steep and irregular, so the standard cabinet setup doesn’t really work. I’m wondering how to cut and install the cabinet sides, shelves, or panels to achieve a perfect fit without large gaps or unsightly spaces. Are there any proven techniques, tools, or special adjustments you would recommend? I’m also interested in solutions for fastening the cabinets to the angled wall or ways to compensate for uneven floors. I want to avoid sloppy work later on or compromising the stability of the cabinets. How have you handled this or what tips can you share? Thanks in advance for your support!

Do you need custom-made parts for that, or can you use standard components and simply adjust the shape on the outside? In my case, I used both: For the top and bottom shelves, I cut custom pieces (sometimes wedge-shaped), while for the middle shelves, I used standard ones. I really liked that this allowed me to design the cabinets in a very individual way! It takes a bit of work but is definitely worth it.
I can confirm that dealing with sloped ceilings is particularly challenging on the inside. My recommendation is to use as many standard parts as possible and only customize what is absolutely necessary. Shelf boards, in particular, can often be later trimmed into a wedge shape on the side that meets the slope by adding a stop.
Thanks to you all! I will first make a paper template, then work with test pieces and cut the interior shelves as recommended. One last question: Is there anything that must be considered during installation if the cabinets are not only at right angles but also angled? For example, when screwing or stabilizing?

One last question: Is there anything important to keep in mind during installation when the cabinets are not only at right angles but also angled?Yes, absolutely! Stability is key. I secured the cabinets to the wall with brackets and installed a leveling strip underneath each one to prevent them from wobbling. Also, make sure there is no tension where the cabinet meets the angled wall – it’s better to leave a bit of space since wood expands and contracts.
A tip: If possible, use adjustable fasteners that allow for fine-tuning later on.
