Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of mounting the baseboards on my Ikea Metod kitchen system cleanly and durably. Since the Metod baseboards are specially designed, I want to avoid them breaking, becoming loose, or not fitting properly after a short time.
I am especially interested in which installation methods have proven effective to
- ensure a stable and long-lasting attachment,
- achieve a clean look without visible screws or plugs,
- and whether there are special screws, pre-drilled spots, or additional accessories that I should definitely use.
It would also be helpful if anyone has tips on how to professionally and precisely cut the baseboards and handle corner joints without damaging the surface.
Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

Hello nibiri,
for a clean and permanently stable installation of the Ikea Metod kickboards, I recommend the following steps:
- First, cut the kickboards to size, ideally using a fine-toothed saw to prevent splintering.
- Use the clips supplied by Ikea to attach the kickboards to the base frame of the kitchen cabinet. These clips ensure a secure hold and make installation easier.
- If additional stability is needed, small flat-head screws such as Spax screws can also be driven through the kickboard into the frame, without being visible afterwards.
- Make sure to dry-fit the kickboards on-site before attaching them and make any necessary minor adjustments to ensure neat joints at corners or transitions.
In general, it is recommended to space the clips evenly at about 30 cm (12 inches) to prevent the board from bending.
At corners and transitions, precise miter cuts provide a factory-like finish.
I hope these tips help with your project.

However, I wonder if the mounting clips from Ikea are really durable enough over time, or if additional mechanical fasteners should be used for higher stresses (e.g., frequent floor inclinations or cleaning procedures).
Are there any insights or experiences regarding how the Metod baseboards behave after extended use, especially concerning the stability of the clips? Are screws or other fastening methods actually necessary or would that be overkill?
And why is the topic of “substrate preparation” rarely discussed – does the floor or cabinet underside need special treatment before installing the baseboards? Would minimal roughening or another approach improve their durability?
