Hello everyone,
I am currently working on improving the accessibility of IKEA Metod corner cabinets in the kitchen. My goal is to find ways to make accessing the often somewhat hard-to-reach corner areas of these cabinets easier and more ergonomic. Specifically, I am interested in which solutions are the most practical, which can be implemented with relatively little effort, and what limitations or special considerations I should be aware of for the different corner cabinet types (e.g., with hinged doors, carousel systems, or pull-out units).
Who has experience with methods to make access to the cabinet interior more efficient? Are there any special extensions, alternative interior layouts, or installation tips that can improve accessibility? I look forward to an active exchange with as many specific suggestions and proven solutions as possible.
Thanks in advance!

Hello leifle,
I can understand how frustrating the corners of Metod cabinets can be, especially when you often need to access the otherwise hard-to-reach interior space.
A well-established tip is to use rotating carousel shelves or so-called 'LeMans' systems, which are specifically designed to make the entire corner usable while keeping it easily accessible. It’s important to measure carefully during installation, as these swivel mechanisms require a bit more space.
For versions with swing doors, it’s also worth considering soft-close self-closing dampers to ensure the doors close smoothly. Sometimes narrow pull-out boards that can be individually pulled out from the corner help improve visibility.
If you like, I can provide an overview of the various accessories IKEA offers for Metod cabinets. Sometimes it's worth investing a bit more in extras to increase long-term convenience.

Hello leifle,
I would like to take a more systematic approach to this topic. To improve access to IKEA Metod corner cabinets, there are basically three main options:
- Carousel systems: These are the most common solutions for corner cabinets and allow easy access to the entire interior by rotating. It is important to carefully plan the turning radius and installation to ensure optimal range of motion.
- Pull-out systems with a hinged door: In this case, the door is basically connected to the pull-out, bringing the entire inner shelf fully out. This is ergonomically beneficial, as you can reach all corners without awkward stretching.
- Corner drawers/basket solutions: Sometimes pull-out baskets or drawers are possible to better utilize individual levels.
Typical mistakes during installation are incorrect measurements or ignoring the door opening widths, which can cause unpleasant collisions. The stability of the rails should also not be underestimated.
My advice: Measure precisely before final installation, choose better fittings if in doubt, and systematically test how easy access will be in everyday use.

I can really understand how annoying such corners can be. For me, the carousel shelf has actually proven effective, but at first, I wasn’t sure if I could manage it and whether it would be practical for everyday use.
This advice is great because those are exactly the systems I tried as well. Still, I found that with especially deep corner cabinets, accessing the back area remains difficult. I worked with small, mobile storage baskets that I can simply pull out. This makes usage more flexible, even though it’s not the perfect solution overall.
I do have some concerns, though, that some cabinets aren’t very stable during assembly — so you need to be careful. But with a bit of patience and the right tools, it usually works out well.

Regarding access systems, I wonder if there are any recommendations on mounting methods or reinforcements that have proven effective without making the cabinets too expensive or complicated.

Are there practical limits to combining them? I was thinking that in tight spaces a mix might make sense, for example if the carousel shelf doesn’t fully use the available cabinet depth.
