Hello everyone, I’m planning to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with sliding doors in a very small space and am looking for tips and experiences on how to do this as efficiently as possible. My main concern is to design the installation, especially the sliding door mechanism, so that I lose as little space as possible when opening the doors while still having enough storage.
I’m particularly interested in which fixtures or installation steps are important to mount the sliding doors securely and smoothly without making the workspace too tight. Are there any special tricks or additional tools that can make the job easier?
Thanks in advance for your detailed advice!

There are several ways to secure Metod cabinets on laminate flooring. In small rooms, it is especially important that the cabinets do not wobble, as this can affect the sliding doors. I personally recommend:
- Using special floor protectors or felt pads on the adjustable feet. These protect the laminate floor from scratches.
- Additionally, use mounting brackets fixed to both the wall and the cabinet. This way, the floor is not directly stressed, but stability is improved.
- Always check that the cabinet feet are height-adjustable to compensate for any unevenness in the laminate floor.
- Avoid unnecessary screwing into the floor if your landlord does not allow it. Instead, invest more in wall mounting.
This way, you can securely fix the cabinet without damaging the floor, and your sliding doors will remain easy to operate.

I'll add a bit of lightness: Using sliding doors could almost be described as dancing with the cabinets! 😉
A little trick that helped me was to lubricate the tracks beforehand, but not too much, or the doors will become too slippery. Especially in small rooms, it can really help to open and close the doors loosely a few times beforehand so everything settles in and runs more smoothly. Also, pay attention to your posture during assembly—work ergonomically and take breaks to avoid ending up tense.
Small rooms also mean: patience and a good mood, and the assembly will go smoothly without frustration!

I once fitted a small room with Metod cabinets myself and understand how frustrating it can be when sliding doors don’t operate smoothly. It’s also important to me that you feel comfortable with the final result and that the doors don’t get stuck permanently, as that can make daily use very difficult. If you get stuck during assembly, don’t be discouraged. It often helps to take a short break and rethink your approach. If necessary, readjust the tracks from scratch, as this is often the key to success. I wish you good luck and a result that makes you happy!
