Hello everyone,

I have an Ikea Pax wardrobe with high-gloss fronts in my apartment, and I want to clean the surface without damaging the paint or the glossy finish. You often find general advice on furniture cleaning, but especially with high-gloss fronts, I’m concerned that using the wrong cleaning products or too aggressive methods could cause streaks, dull the surface, or even scratch it.

Therefore, my question is: What is the best way to clean Ikea Pax wardrobes with high-gloss fronts to maintain their attractive appearance, enhance reflections, and avoid damage from inappropriate cleaning agents?

I assume that abrasive cleaners or strongly alkaline products are not suitable, but what about vinegar water, special glass cleaners, or microfiber cloths? Are there any proven tips or recommendations from you that help clean these surfaces gently and effectively?

Thank you in advance for your opinions and experiences.

I think it’s great that you’re thinking this through beforehand. I have a Pax wardrobe myself, and at first, I was also unsure about how to clean it without ending up with streaks or an unpleasant film on the high-gloss surface.

My advice is to always use a soft microfiber cloth and only slightly dampen it—ideally with plain water. If there’s heavier dirt, I add just a tiny drop of mild dish soap. After cleaning, make sure to dry it well to prevent water spots.

I completely avoid harsh cleaners or those containing alcohol or vinegar, as they quickly dulled the high-gloss finish for me.

I hope this helps! Don’t worry, with a bit of care, it works perfectly.

This also aligns with the manufacturer's recommendations. IKEA advises that no harsh or abrasive cleaning agents should be used to clean Pax wardrobes with high-gloss fronts.

In detail:
- Use lukewarm water with an optional mild dish soap.
- Cloths should be very soft and lint-free; microfiber cloths are ideal.
- Avoid soaking the surfaces or using glass cleaners containing alcohol or ammonia, as these can damage the finish.
- Never use abrasive cleaners or stiff scrubbing pads.

Additionally, it is advisable to wipe the surface immediately after cleaning with a dry cloth to prevent water spots and streaks.

This helps maintain the high-gloss finish and keeps the wardrobe looking like new for a long time.

Hey, I always find the topic of cleaning high-gloss fronts quite interesting! 😄 Especially with Ikea Pax, it’s important not to apply too much pressure and avoid using harsh chemicals.

Personally, I rely on a little water and a soft microfiber cloth, just like mentioned before. For small grease spots, I add a tiny drop of dish soap, mix it with water, and wipe gently. Then, don’t forget to wipe again with clean water or a damp cloth to avoid streaks!

Also, it really helps to move the cloth in circular motions almost meditatively – that makes the surface look especially nice in the end. And yes, fingerprints on high-gloss fronts are definitely a challenge, but regular, gentle care really does help.

So, I believe with the right technique it works great without “smearing” the surface! 😉
