Hello everyone,

I recently ordered the IKEA Brimnes bedroom set and am now wondering how to best plan the assembly. Since the furniture set includes several individual pieces and some rather large components, I want to approach this as systematically as possible to avoid mistakes or unnecessary delays.

I’m considering whether I should first sort all the parts and then perhaps start with the individual components or modules – maybe the bed first and then the dressers? Are there any specific tips regarding the order of assembly, especially concerning stability and ergonomics?

I’m also curious if it’s better to assemble it alone or with a partner, and which tools are recommended to have on hand besides the usual Allen key included in the set.

I’d really appreciate detailed advice and experiences on how to plan and carry out the assembly as efficiently and stress-free as possible.

Hello KEOTAR,

For the IKEA Brimnes set, I recommend breaking down the assembly into clearly defined phases. First, unpack all the boxes and systematically sort the parts, ideally by furniture type (e.g., bed, dressers, nightstands) and size. This will save you a lot of time searching later on.

My advice is to actually start with the bed since it is often the heaviest and most complex piece. The Brimnes bed requires sturdy connections between the side panels and the headboard, as this forms the main structure. Also, make sure to install the slatted bed base parallel and level to avoid sagging.

Additionally, check all screws and fasteners for smooth threading—older sets sometimes have tighter threads. Besides the included Allen key, having a cordless drill with adjustable torque is very helpful.

Regarding helpers: Having a second person to hold the large side panels and assist with fitting the slatted base is extremely useful.

One last tip: Although IKEA materials are sturdy, overtightening the screws can cause the wood to swell and weaken the furniture in the long term. Finding the right balance is important.

Which tools do you already have on hand, and are there any special conditions in your setup, like uneven floors?

Thank you for your detailed response! So far, I only have the Allen wrench from the set, a cordless drill without torque control, various screwdrivers, a hammer, and a spirit level. The floor is laminate and quite even, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

What’s most important to me is avoiding incorrect assembly, for example installing parts the wrong way or applying too much stress at the joints. I also want to make sure everything is stable and nothing moves or wobbles later on.

Do you think a second helper is absolutely necessary, or can it be done alone with some patience? Are there any clever steps where parts can be temporarily fixed in place to continue working solo?

KEOTAR, your plan is sensible and, above all, systematic.

Regarding the topic "building alone or with a partner": It is generally possible to assemble the Brimnes set by yourself, but having an assistant greatly improves comfort and stability during positioning. If you are working alone, it is advisable to use temporary fasteners such as clamps to stabilize the components.

Another important point is the sequence:
- Start with the bed frame, as it occupies the largest space and forms the base for the rest.
- Next, assemble the dressers, since these involve less weight and larger parts.
- Finally, add the nightstands or smaller pieces.

Make sure that the connections are always aligned straight and not tightened at an angle to avoid stress on the wood. Use the supplied screws only in the designated places and tighten them gradually, not all at once.

For tools, a cordless drill with torque control is ideal, as it prevents over-tightening the screws. Always have the instructions handy for assistance, and consider marking the parts before assembly to improve organization.

If you like, I can also provide a list of essential recommended tools.

Simply sort the parts before assembly – bed first, dresser afterward.
Use a cordless screwdriver, but only tighten lightly.
If you are working alone, use sturdy supports to elevate the parts.

Interesting tip, but I wonder if that’s often too risky. Especially with larger furniture pieces like the Brimnes bed: who guarantees that everything is securely positioned and won’t slip?

Why not simply ask someone to help? Just a thought. Having a second person during furniture assembly can also save time and frustration—not everyone wants to take on such a challenge alone.

After all, most employees at stores like IKEA are not high-level engineers. I imagine the furniture is designed to be assembled by the average consumer with some help, not to turn into a balancing act for everyone.
