Hello everyone, I’m looking for tips on the best way to care for IKEA Metod fronts made of melamine. These kitchen fronts are very popular because of their durability, but I want to avoid them becoming dull over time or getting damaged from improper cleaning. Specifically, I’m interested in which cleaning products work best and whether there are any special maintenance techniques to prevent scratches, streaks, or discoloration. I’m also curious about whether aggressive cleaners should be avoided and how often they should be cleaned. If anyone has experience, I’d appreciate detailed and practical advice.

I love my Metod fronts! 😊 What really helps: never leave water standing on the surface! The edges are sensitive, so wipe them off quickly. Otherwise, a soft microfiber cloth and a mild cleaner are enough! If you get a stain, treat it immediately to avoid problems. Make maintenance a routine, and everything will stay shiny and new!

I wonder how effective vinegar-based cleaners really are. Although vinegar is often recommended as a home remedy, its acidity theoretically causes chemical stress on melamine surfaces, which could lead to micro-damage over time. Does anyone have laboratory results or reliable studies that confirm or refute the effects of mildly acidic cleaners on melamine? For me, it’s important to have not only practical experience but also some scientific background before regularly using such products in the kitchen.

That’s a valid point. From what I understand, IKEA does not explicitly recommend using vinegar, but they do emphasize avoiding aggressive, acidic cleaners. In practice, small amounts of diluted vinegar are generally fine as long as you wipe the surface immediately afterwards. I would also avoid prolonged and concentrated use of vinegar cleaner.

For daily cleaning, a damp cloth with mild dish soap is sufficient. Do not use abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals. If there are stains, treat them promptly, but avoid strongly acidic or alkaline cleaners. After cleaning, dry the surface to prevent water spots.

This is definitely something to keep in mind. Water on the melamine foil may not cause immediate damage, but over time the underlying substrate can swell and lead to deformations. So, in general, wipe away any liquids right away.
