Hello everyone, I am facing the challenge of how to securely attach an IKEA Platsa wardrobe to a drywall (gypsum board) wall. The wall consists of plasterboard panels on a stud frame, so it is not a solid wall, and I want to avoid the fasteners eventually pulling out or the wardrobe tipping over. Since the Platsa is relatively heavy and can be unstable if not properly anchored, I am looking for a permanently secure solution with suitable anchors or brackets. It would be great if you could share your experiences specifically with drywall and IKEA furniture, especially Platsa—what anchors you used, how you proceeded, and any important points to watch out for. Thanks in advance!

Alternatively, the use of ceiling suspensions allows for upper stabilization.

Interesting point, but honestly: who wants to drill into the ceiling just to secure an IKEA cabinet? In my opinion, caution is sometimes overdone. If you use proper cavity anchors in the right places, it holds just as well with less effort. Although Platsa may seem a bit shaky, the furniture series is well designed – so there’s no need to panic here.

LUNON, to answer your original question precisely: For mounting a PLATSA cabinet on a drywall, the best option is to anchor it securely into the metal or wooden studs behind the wall. If this is not possible, use high-quality metal toggle anchors (also called hollow wall anchors) at each fixing point, as their expanding mechanism distributes the load effectively. Always choose screws of the appropriate length to ensure a secure attachment. To distribute the load, at least two to three fixing points at the height of the cabinet’s back are necessary to prevent tipping forces. If the cabinet will be heavily loaded, it is recommended to use additional support brackets. Make sure to pay attention to the load capacity of the anchors used and whether the wall thickness supports them. This way, you can install the PLATSA cabinet safely and securely on drywall.
