Hello everyone,

I am planning to attach an Ikea Pax wardrobe to a concrete wall and would like to know the best and safest way to do this. Which anchors and screws do you recommend for this type of wall? Are there any special tips for the installation to ensure the wardrobe is securely and permanently fixed without coming loose? I intend to anchor the wardrobe mainly to standard concrete, not to aerated concrete blocks or similar, and I don’t have much experience with fixing to these kinds of walls.

Thank you very much in advance for your advice!

It is important to pre-drill with the correct masonry drill bit, preferably 8 mm (5/16 inches). The included anchors from Ikea are usually not suitable for concrete. It is better to buy heavy-duty anchors at the hardware store.

One more tip: Make sure not to drill the anchor holes too deep, otherwise the screw won't hold properly. For Pax on concrete, use 6-8 mm (1/4-5/16 inch) anchors and screws, as this has been tested.

Hi, I don’t find attaching PAX to concrete difficult if you take your time. It’s important to thoroughly remove the dust after drilling (vacuum or brush). Otherwise, the anchor won’t hold properly. I’ve also had great experience with heavy-duty anchors. Good luck! 👍

Thanks for your quick tips! One more question: Do you have any recommendations for brands or types of heavy-duty anchors for concrete that are especially reliable? I don’t want to experiment since the cabinet will be quite heavily loaded. Also, how many fixing points should be used at minimum for a PAX that is 100 cm (40 inches) wide?

Fischer or Düfa, those available at hardware stores, are usually good. The diameter is more important than the brand. Use at least 4 fixing points for a width of 100 cm (40 inches).

For 100 cm (39 inches), I would recommend four screws, two evenly spaced at the top and two at the bottom, to ensure the load is distributed evenly onto the wall.
