Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am preparing for a somewhat more complex assembly project. Since I want to combine several modules and accessories, it would be great if you could share your tips and experiences regarding the assembly.

I am particularly interested in advice on:
- Preparation and tools
- Procedures for large wardrobes
- Common mistakes or pitfalls
- Tips for simplifying the assembly, such as assembling in parts
- Experiences with modifications or special requests for Pax

I look forward to practical tips, including recommendations on what to avoid.

Thank you in advance!

A tip regarding doors:
You need to align the hinges precisely; otherwise, the door won’t close properly. Use the adjustment options of the hinges and align the doors step by step.

If you only do it roughly, you’ll regret it later.

Do not attach the wardrobe only on the wall side – the Pax can become unstable quickly.

Additionally, the stability of the wardrobe heavily depends on proper fastening, especially for tall models. It is also advisable to install the back panel straight and secure it with enough fixing points.

When assembling, make sure the vertical side profiles are perfectly plumb. Iterative adjustments using a spirit level are useful for this.

For fastening to walls made of different materials, it is recommended to use anchors suitable for the wall type:
- Concrete and brick walls: universal anchors 8-10 mm (0.3–0.4 inches)
- Drywall: cavity anchors (suitable for loads)

Screws should be at least 6 cm (2.4 inches) long to ensure secure anchoring.

I understand that the construction process can sometimes be stressful. My advice: take breaks and try not to lose perspective if something doesn’t fit right away. For me, it helped to set everything aside for 5 minutes and then continue with focus.

I can only agree with that, especially if you have to take the doors off and put them back on several times—you can easily lose track. At first, I preferred to leave the doors slightly open rather than installing them incorrectly.

If you’re unsure, feel free to ask here—we’ve all been Pax beginners at some point!

Briefly about the tools: The best helper when assembling Pax is a cordless drill/driver with adjustable torque settings. Unfortunately, it is common to see people using too much force, which can cause the drilled holes to tear out or screws to be over-tightened.

Precise, moderate tightening of screws protects the materials and ensures long-lasting stability.

Incorrect screw placement – pay attention to the screw rotation speeds and avoid running the drill at full power.

Therefore, this should definitely be kept in mind. Additionally, I have found that double-checking components before assembly saves a lot of frustration.

Last but not least, having a well-organized workspace ensures the best workflow.

I would like to add one more point that really helped me when assembling my Pax:

Use small aids like angle brackets or clamps to hold parts in place while you are screwing them together. This makes the work much easier, especially when working alone, and prevents slipping.

Having a helper to hold the doors or large panels is also very useful, if available.

And: The IKEA instructions are good, but not always intuitive. Sometimes it helps to mentally go through the individual steps beforehand or watch external assembly videos to get a better feel for the process.

Good luck!
