Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of securely and neatly attaching the IKEA Metod baseboards to my new kitchen base cabinets. I want to avoid the baseboards becoming loose or wobbly later on, as I’m looking for a durable solution that holds up well with daily use, for example when vacuuming or with moisture from the floor.
My specific question is: What fastening methods work best for the Metod baseboards to ensure a stable installation, without visible screw heads or damaging the baseboards?
I have already read about using clips and screws, but I’m unsure if there are better practical tips, especially regarding the preparation of the baseboards, the substrate, and proper positioning to maintain a good appearance. Does anyone have experience or a step-by-step guide?
Thank you very much in advance!

For a secure attachment of the Metod baseboards, I recommend using the original clips from IKEA. These provide a solid connection with no visible screws.
- Attach the clips at the designated positions
- Simply click the baseboard into place
- For uneven floors, it is advisable to lay a leveling layer underneath first.
This is the most durable method without the need for drilling.

Hello Danlo66,
I would like to give you a more detailed guide on how to securely and neatly attach the Metod baseboards.
1. Preparing the surface: Ideally, your kitchen base cabinets should be perfectly level and the floor surface even. Check this with a spirit level. For minor unevenness, you can use wooden shims or spacers.
2. Attaching the IKEA Metod baseboard clips:
- The clips have holes on the back for screws.
- Screw the clips to the cabinet frame, not to the floor or wall, to ensure stability.
- Distance between clips should be about 40-50cm (16-20 inches), with at least one clip at each end of the baseboard.
3. Installing the baseboards: Gently slide the baseboards into the clipped holders until they snap into place.
4. Concealing screws: If you do need to use screws in more visible areas, it’s recommended to use small wooden plugs or cover the screw heads with matching paint.
5. Tip for especially clean work: Mark all drill holes with a pencil before screwing in, and pre-drill to prevent the wood from splitting.
If clips alone are not enough, you can screw directly through the back of the baseboards with small screws, so that they remain hidden.
I hope this helps!

The clips are really well designed, hold firmly, and you can quickly remove the baseboards if needed, for example, if you need to work on the connections underneath.
One small tip, if you want to be extra sure: before attaching the clips, lightly sand the back of the baseboards and the contact surface on the wall cabinet with fine sandpaper – this provides even better grip and prevents later shifting or rattling.
This way, it also looks neat, with no screw ends showing 😊. And if you like, you can secure the baseboards a bit with some construction adhesive on the back before snapping them in, but that’s really optional.
Keep at it – good luck with the installation!
