Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of mounting the doors of my IKEA Metod kitchen in a way that ensures they are not only durable but also as quiet as possible. Especially with soft-close hinges, there can sometimes be issues like rattling or loose fittings over time.
I’m interested in:
- Which screws or fastening methods have proven reliable?
- Are there additional dampers or tricks to make the closing noticeably quieter?
- How can I prevent the doors from hanging unevenly or the hinges from loosening after extended use?
I am using the original IKEA hinges but am open to improvements as long as the door remains stable and can be properly adjusted.
Looking forward to your experiences and tips for long-lasting and quiet use of the Metod doors. Thanks in advance!

I would like to add that I also applied felt or foam rubber strips to the contact points in my kitchen.Exactly, those small upgrades are often the underrated secret tip!
I personally like it when the doors close so smoothly and gently that it almost feels like the door closes by itself. 🙂
Even though IKEA Metod kitchens already come with soft-close, a bit of fine-tuning and maintenance is worth its weight in gold for everyday use.
Don’t forget to clean the hinges from time to time and treat them with some silicone oil or lubricant; this extends their lifespan and preserves functionality.
In summary:
- For a secure and lasting installation, always use original hinges and screws.
- Tighten screws only by hand to avoid over-tightening.
- Properly adjust the IKEA Metod hinges using the adjustment screws (vertical, horizontal, and depth settings).
- Rubber buffers, felt strips, or silicone dampers at the door strike points help reduce noise and protect surfaces.
- Regularly check the screws and clean the hinges.
- If needed, sturdy plastic wall anchors can be used to improve screw retention in the wood.
These points are considered best practices for durable and quiet use of IKEA Metod doors.
