ᐅ How do I assemble IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with soft-close drawers?

Gaon60Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble an IKEA Metod kitchen and specifically want to integrate the soft-close drawers. My main question concerns the best way to assemble these drawers and adjust them correctly so that the soft-close mechanism works smoothly and does not jam over time.
I already have the basic assembly instructions from IKEA, but they seem a bit brief and don’t offer many tips for fine adjustments, especially regarding the drawer sides and installing the soft-close dampers.
Does anyone have experience with these specific details? What steps should I pay special attention to when assembling and installing the drawers? How can I avoid common mistakes during adjustment that could negatively affect the soft-close function?
I am also interested in practical advice on the assembly sequence, for example, whether it is better to fully build the carcasses first and then install the drawers, or if assembling drawer by drawer is preferable.
I look forward to your tips and proven instructions!

How can I avoid common mistakes during adjustment that might negatively affect the soft-close function?First, it is important to assemble the drawer carcasses precisely, as uneven assembly can affect the mechanism. Pay special attention to:
- correct fastening of the side panels and bottom boards
- precise installation of the soft-close dampers according to the instructions
- exact fitting of the drawer into the guide rails
During installation, check the alignment carefully, as drawers can easily become misaligned, which disrupts the soft-close function. Then check the adjustment of the dampers, which are usually adjustable by screws to soften the end stop. Common causes of problems are uneven fitting of the carcasses or inaccurate installation of the runners.
Recommended procedure: It is advisable to fully assemble the carcasses and install all drawer slides first. After that, the drawers can be inserted and adjusted individually. This helps avoid unnecessary corrections and damage to individual parts.

Regarding the procedure: It is advisable to assemble the carcasses completely and install all drawer slides first. Afterwards, the drawers can be inserted individually and adjusted. That’s exactly how I do it as well. Additionally, I recommend applying a bit of silicone spray to the rails before the final installation. This ensures smoother gliding and significantly improves the soft-close function.

It’s really important to take your time during assembly and carefully check everything.
A tip from personal experience: after you have assembled the drawer boxes, don’t install the soft-close dampers right away. First, make sure all parts are fitted without any play. Then you can attach the dampers and adjust them on the slides — this way you’ll find the right resistance much faster.
Also, make sure the drawer fronts are perfectly aligned once everything is installed. Sometimes a fine adjustment after fully inserting and closing the drawers helps — otherwise, you might still experience sticking despite the soft-close feature.
If you have any further questions about individual steps, feel free to ask. It will definitely work out well!
