Hello everyone, I recently purchased IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and want to properly attach the doors with the soft-close feature. My specific question is: How do I correctly fasten the IKEA Metod doors with soft-close to the cabinet units so that the hinges are precisely aligned and the soft-close mechanism works optimally? I have seen that there are special metal hinges that need to be adjusted, but I am unsure which steps must be carefully followed, especially regarding door alignment, to ensure everything closes cleanly and the soft-close function works correctly. I would appreciate a detailed guide or practical tips, as I have no experience with these specific hinges.

Typical mistakes:
- Screws tightened too much / before hanging – makes adjustment difficult

This is an important point. I also recommend installing the doors first with the hinges without the soft-close function to get a feel for the alignment before the damper is activated. This provides more room for fine-tuning.

That is crucial, but I wonder if the standard alignment of soft-close hinges is always sufficient in practice.

From a technical perspective, the three-dimensional adjustable hinges of IKEA Metod are designed to ensure a permanently stable connection. Misalignments can be caused by over-tightened screws or incorrect installation.

For long-term stability, I recommend regularly tightening the screws without overdoing it. The adjustment mechanism is well designed and should work reliably for home use, provided it has been installed correctly.

I just wanted to mention: Don’t forget to snap the small soft-close flap into the hinge cover after adjusting, otherwise, say goodbye to gentle closing!

Sounds trivial, but I completely missed it the first time and wondered why the door was slamming so loudly ;-)

Oh yes, I know that feeling! Especially with IKEA, a bit of tinkering is needed. My tip: first, loosen all the hinges, then hang the doors and carefully adjust them, because after that, the soft-close works smoothly. Good luck with your project!

In summary: For installing IKEA Metod doors with soft-close function, it is essential to initially attach all hinges evenly and not too tightly. Only after all doors are hung should fine adjustments be made in the following three dimensions:

- Height
- Horizontal alignment
- Depth

The depth adjustment is especially important for optimal pressure on the damper. This ensures that the soft-close mechanism operates smoothly and that the doors neither slam shut nor fail to close properly.

These precise adjustments determine the quality of the final result.

Thank you all for the detailed answers! The advice about the sequence—install all the hinges first, then align them—was particularly helpful. Also, the tip about gentle adjustment to avoid blocking the soft-close mechanism eased my concerns about incorrect installation. I will proceed step by step and share how it goes.
