Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of assembling IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets, with several built-in appliances such as an oven and dishwasher already planned. My question is: What is the best approach to install the cabinets so that they fit precisely and securely with the appliances? I am especially interested in the correct process for cladding, fastenings, and the necessary cutouts.
I have some experience with simple furniture, but I am struggling with the fine-tuning between the cabinet structure and appliance connections. Is there a practical workflow or helpful tips to avoid mistakes during assembly and ensure a proper fit? Any advice on fastening the side panels and aligning the appliances would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Anbeso,
First, assemble the carcasses and align them precisely.
Then place the appliances inside without securing them yet.
Adjust the panels and set the doors so that everything closes flush.
After that, fix the appliances and screw in the back panels.
This way, you avoid misalignment caused by fixing too early.

The industry and IKEA often rely on generous tolerances and visual tricks here – the fronts are usually designed to hide small inaccuracies. That is both interesting and reassuring. I was actually worried that I would have to work to within a few millimeters in the depth and width of the cabinets. It’s good to know that the door adjustment mechanisms allow for some leeway.

Measure the built-in appliances and check the recommended cut-out dimensions according to the IKEA instructions.Just to clarify: does this refer to the front panel or the interior of the cabinet carcass? I ask because in my current plan the appliances are meant to align almost flush with the cabinet front edge – how exactly do you measure this? From which reference point do you start measuring, especially for appliances with built-in panels?

For clarification: Is this referring to the front section or the interior of the cabinet? This mainly refers to the interior of the cabinet, meaning the dimensions required to place the appliance inside and secure it safely. The front section is then covered and evened out by the doors and panels.

I’m asking because in my current plan the appliances are supposed to be almost flush with the cabinet front edge.Exactly, that’s the purpose of the fronts – they are meant to visually integrate the appliance. So measure from the front edge of the cabinet box to the back of the appliance inside the cabinet. It’s important that the appliance sits securely, does not stick out, and is neither installed too deep nor too shallow.
For appliances with an integrated panel, it’s best to measure the depth without the panel and then add the panel thickness separately so the front aligns flush.
If you precisely align the side panels during installation and tighten the screws carefully, it should fit well in practice.

I’d say, with IKEA Metod: just go step by step and don’t rush. Fit the appliances a bit loosely at first and then fine-tune. The doors offer plenty of adjustment options, so don’t be afraid of small mistakes.
Put on a relaxed playlist too—it makes dealing with these small details much more enjoyable. 😉
And honestly: if something isn’t 100% perfect, it barely shows in everyday use—unless you’re comparing it to professional kitchen photos. Most Metod kitchens still end up looking great!

Is there maybe a practical workflow or helpful tips to avoid errors during installation and ensure proper fit?Hey anbeso, I completely understand how stressful installing built-in appliances can be, especially if it’s your first time assembling a kitchen like this.
One tip that helped me a lot: work in stages and check the precise alignment with a spirit level after each step. Appliances can sometimes affect the balance of the cabinets, and it’s easier to fix small inaccuracies immediately rather than later on.
Also important: double-check the appliance dimensions, as already mentioned, and if in doubt, size the cabinet slightly larger.
In the end, it’s a mix of technical understanding and a bit of patience.
