Hello everyone, I am considering expanding my IKEA Pax wardrobe with additional hooks and baskets because I need more storage space and better organization for accessories and smaller clothing items. However, I am unsure which types of hooks and baskets are best suited and how to attach or arrange them effectively within the wardrobe system without affecting stability or appearance. Does anyone have experience or tips on which additions work particularly well to make the IKEA Pax flexible and functional? I am especially interested in practical solutions for hanging extra hooks or baskets on the existing frame or doors. Thanks in advance!
Hey thorben64, one of my favorite upgrades for my Pax was simply experimenting with some clever baskets and hooks. For example, I added a few wire baskets with leather handles – this not only provides more storage space but also adds a bit of style to the wardrobe. I hung the hooks on the inside of the doors, which works great for hats and bags that would otherwise be lying around. The whole setup even looks quite stylish if you choose a combination of metal and warm materials, which is easier on the eyes during the morning rush. Just be bold and see what fits!
The height of baskets and hooks should be adjusted according to their intended use. For example, deeper baskets are suitable for items like scarves or socks, while shallow baskets work better for belts or underwear. When it comes to hooks, it is advisable to choose shapes that prevent items from slipping off. Additionally, I recommend using accessories that, if possible, utilize the original IKEA mounting systems, as they fit securely and do not cause damage. Flexible solutions, such as extendable clothes rails, are often a practical addition to the traditional basket and hook setup.
A well-thought-out solution is to expand the Pax system modularly with additional hanging baskets and hooks specifically designed for the existing rails. It is important to pay attention to load limits and avoid simply hanging larger or heavier baskets on the doors, as this can lead to deformation over time. Baskets made of powder-coated steel are especially recommended, as they are corrosion-resistant and lightweight. Mounting on the inside of the doors works well with thin hook rails, which can be secured with screws if necessary to ensure optimal stability. With these adjustments, storage space can be used much more efficiently without compromising functionality or appearance.

I think it’s overrated to always use only the IKEA accessories. That’s an interesting point, thanks for raising it. I had actually planned to use the original accessories because I value compatibility and a consistent look. On the other hand, I find the idea of experimenting with other materials and fastening methods exciting, as it would allow customizing the cabinet individually. However, I have concerns about stability since I use the cabinet daily and am relying on a durable solution. How have you specifically tested or ensured stability when using alternative fastenings? And how does it look when combining different hooks or storage solutions? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences.
