Hello everyone, I would like to start a focused discussion on the topic: How can the Ikea PAX wardrobe be best used in rental apartments without causing issues with landlords or permanently damaging the walls? I understand that many rental properties have restrictions regarding drilling or mounting, so I am looking for practical advice on how to use the PAX system in a flexible, rental-safe, and still stable way. Ideas on custom modifications, fastening methods, or alternative assembly options are also very welcome. How do you handle this in your own apartment? I look forward to hearing your experiences and solutions.

I got the clamping system at the hardware store; it’s an adjustable telescopic rod. Not an Ikea solution, more suited for drywall construction. It’s important that the ceiling is stable and not slanted.

Use of special clamp or spreader feet that stabilize the cabinet without wall mounting.

That sounds like a good alternative to me. I often struggle with uncertain statements from the landlord, especially since he can see the inside of the cabinet.

I recently also read that you can secure Pax cabinets to the wall using Velcro straps that can be removed without leaving any residue. Does anyone have experience with this? That might be better for tenants like me than drilling.

I understand how challenging this can be. I have tried Velcro strips myself, but they are not strong enough for heavy or tall cabinets. They are fine for smaller pieces. It is important to test the stability beforehand.

Otherwise, I have had good experience with corner brackets for furniture that can be attached to side panels with minimal intervention, as long as the landlord allows even small screws.

That is correct. Hook-and-loop fasteners cannot provide true mechanical anchoring; they mainly prevent slipping. Especially for PAX units, which are very tall and heavy, a combination of floor protection, possible minimal fixings, or telescopic clamp systems is recommended.

Furthermore, proper load distribution should be considered during installation to avoid point loads on rental property walls.
