Hello everyone, I would like to start a focused discussion on the topic: How can the Ikea PAX wardrobe be best used in rental apartments without causing issues with landlords or permanently damaging the walls? I understand that many rental properties have restrictions regarding drilling or mounting, so I am looking for practical advice on how to use the PAX system in a flexible, rental-safe, and still stable way. Ideas on custom modifications, fastening methods, or alternative assembly options are also very welcome. How do you handle this in your own apartment? I look forward to hearing your experiences and solutions.

I’m very concerned about this issue because I live in a rental apartment where drilling is only allowed to a very limited extent.

I often feel that it’s difficult to set up the PAX securely without fixing it to the wall. On the other hand, I am worried about cosmetic repairs and disputes over the security deposit.

For me, the priority is ensuring stability without causing damage. Maybe clamp systems or weights can be used to secure the wardrobe? I’m also interested in how you deal with different room layouts and wall types.

I’m a bit unsure about this and look forward to your opinions!

A structured approach to using the Ikea PAX wardrobe in rental apartments is essential to avoid damage while ensuring stability.

Here are some specific tips:
- Use special clamp or expanding feet that stabilize the wardrobe without wall mounting.
- Place floor protection mats under the feet to protect the floor.
- If minimal drilling is allowed, use small, thin wall plugs to minimize damage.
- Alternatively, free-standing PAX units can be fitted with back panels to increase stability.
- Positioning the wardrobe against a wall without direct radiators or electrical outlets allows for more flexible installation.

In practice, I recommend taking precise measurements before purchase and consulting with the landlord to avoid uncertainties.

I secured my PAX unit to the floor without drilling, using non-slip pads. This prevents any slipping and ensures the wardrobe stands firmly. I completely avoided wall fixing.

In a rental apartment, I only use PAX with an additional clamping system between the ceiling and the wardrobe. This works without drilling and is stable enough if the room height is sufficient.

That sounds interesting. Where can you find such clamping systems? Do you specifically use something from Ikea or accessories from a hardware store?
