Hello everyone,
I am planning to get an Ikea PAX system for toy storage and wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with it or can offer tips on how to best use the PAX wardrobe systems for children's rooms, especially for storing toys.
My main goal is to make the system as flexible and organized as possible, because with so many different types of toys – from small pieces like LEGO bricks to books and larger toys or craft materials – I find it challenging to choose the right setup and suitable interior fittings (drawers, shelves, bins, etc.).
I am also interested in any recommendations on how to make the PAX wardrobes child-friendly and safe, for example regarding height, stability, and accessibility.
I would appreciate detailed suggestions or practical experiences that could help me plan a well-thought-out solution. Thanks in advance!

Hello pin40,
From my experience, I recommend starting with the PAX system using a combination of shelves, drawers, and baskets. This mix is quite practical, especially for different types of toys:
- Sort LEGO bricks and small items best in transparent boxes or small drawers so children can easily find them themselves.
- Place books and larger toys on adjustable shelves that can be moved up or down as needed.
- Craft supplies work well in wide, shallow drawers or storage baskets that can be quickly pulled out.
You can also replace the back panels of some compartments with magnetic boards if you want to get creative. I also think it’s important to design the lower levels at the right height so children can reach their things easily without needing constant help.
If safety is important to you, be sure to secure the cabinets to the wall. The PAX system is stable but can tip over under load, especially if children climb on it or hang on the doors.
If you have any more questions, I’m happy to help!

Hello,
to create an organized solution for storing toys in the Ikea PAX system, I recommend the following approach:
- First, analyze the type and amount of toys to plan the appropriate compartment division.
- Use drawers with internal dividers to keep small items like Legos, puzzles, or figurines neatly organized.
- Larger, bulky toys can be stored in the wider shelving compartments.
- Adjustable shelves are suitable for books.
- Flexible insert baskets made of plastic or fabric also make removal easier.
Consider the choice between doors and open storage: doors protect against dust but may reduce quick accessibility.
A child-friendly height of about 110 cm (43 inches) is advisable so children can access items independently. Stability can be achieved through wall anchoring and installing multiple modules.
A combination of visible and concealed storage options provides clarity without visual clutter.
These measures ensure a functional and safe toy storage solution within the PAX system.

What I would generally add is that the base tracks of the PAX system not only accommodate shelves and drawers but also special accessories like hanging systems or removable boxes, which make playing and tidying up easier.
The choice of doors also matters. Sliding doors save space, while partially overlay doors provide extra storage on the inside surface for hooks or bags.
In my opinion, you should particularly focus on modular flexibility since the need for toy storage changes significantly as children grow.

Accessibility is improved by using drawers instead of doors in the most frequently used areas.
