Hello everyone, I plan to replace the doors of my Ikea Pax wardrobe because I want to change the design. I am interested in the best way to remove the old doors and install new ones. Could someone please explain step by step what I should keep in mind? I am especially interested in whether I need to pay attention to specific screws or fasteners when taking off the doors, if the hinges can be reused, and how to properly adjust the new doors on the wardrobe frame. Thanks in advance for your tips!

The Ikea Pax doors are mostly attached with clip hinges that can be released with a small screwdriver or by pressing with your finger. Thanks for the tip about the clip hinges! Can anyone say if there is a risk of damaging the frame when removing them? I’d prefer not to damage the frame paint or edges. Is there a chance of pulling out the hinges if you’re not careful?

It is important to gently unclip the clips with a steady hand and never pull the door forward with too much force. If you are unsure, take your time and, if possible, get a second person to help. The frame and paint can easily get damaged if you are rough – which I unfortunately experienced once. So don’t get discouraged; rather, proceed step by step.
I would suggest following this order: first loosen all screws and clips, then carefully unhang the door. For adjustment after rehanging, the small screws above and below the hinge are often helpful, as they allow fine tuning. Don’t worry about removing it—the components are designed for replacement.

Can anyone say whether there is a risk of damage to the frame during the renovation? As a general rule, the more often doors are removed and reinstalled, the greater the risk of minor marks caused by leverage or worn fasteners. If doors are changed frequently, it may be advisable to perform some maintenance on the hinges and frames. Repairing small paint damages with suitable repair kits can help preserve the appearance.
