Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding our IKEA Metod kitchen: How can I replace damaged sink cabinet fronts without having to dismantle the entire cabinet or damage the furniture structure?

I’ve seen that Metod fronts are often just clipped on, but I’m unsure if there are additional considerations for sink cabinets due to the water connections. Is there a step-by-step guide or any special tips for replacing these fronts?

It would also be helpful to know if original replacement fronts can be purchased directly from IKEA or if it’s necessary to rely on third-party suppliers. I want to avoid ordering the wrong dimensions or damaging anything during installation.

Thanks for your advice!

Simply unclip the fronts on the Metod sink cabinet: unscrew the handle and carefully remove the front. The water connections are not affected. Replacement fronts are available directly from IKEA. Make sure to compare the dimensions carefully.

This is basically correct, but I would like to add: For sink cabinets, it is especially important to fully loosen the hinges, as adjustments may be needed when removing the cabinet due to water dispensers or waste systems.

I recommend shutting off or at least closing the water supply before removing the front to avoid any risk of water damage.

Original fronts can be ordered directly from IKEA; it is helpful to note your front’s article number in advance, as you can also check availability by phone. There are also third-party options in matching colors, but dimensions and material quality may vary.

Hey! I recently replaced a damaged Metod sink cabinet front and can only say: go for it! 😊 The fronts are easier to unscrew than you might think. Just remove the handle and carefully lift the front – nothing else will happen!

Very important: Make sure to get the exact measurement code from IKEA! I was really impressed that everything went smoothly for me. Give it a try, you can do it!

As an addition, here is a practical procedure that has proven effective for Metod kitchen sink cabinets:

- Turn off the water supply to the sink cabinet to avoid any potential damage.
- Unscrew the handle using the appropriate tool (usually a Phillips screwdriver).
- Carefully lift the front panel or detach it from the hinges and plastic clips. It is recommended to use a flat prying tool to prevent damage.
- Check inside the cabinet for accessories such as waste sorting inserts or water filters that might complicate disassembly.
- Order replacement fronts directly from IKEA. It is advisable to take the product number from the back of the old front panel or from the original invoice.

The process is generally straightforward if done carefully and methodically. For those considering purchasing new fronts from third-party suppliers: variations in hole positions or panel thickness may cause installation difficulties.

I would like to offer a critical perspective:

That is true, but especially with older Metod series, IKEA may no longer have them in stock or they may have been discontinued. In that case, you either have to adjust the model or consider third-party alternatives.

Additionally, you should ensure that only the fronts are replaced if the mounting points fit exactly. This avoids unnecessary extra work, such as hidden screw holes and re-drilling.

Regarding disassembly: simply unclipping is correct, but with sink cabinets, moisture can sometimes accumulate inside the frame, causing the fronts to swell or warp and become stuck. In such cases, it is recommended to carefully and gradually loosen them using appropriate prying tools and some patience.
