Jannikkeo18 Nov 2023 14:37Hello everyone, I have a small bathroom, just under 3 to 4 square meters (32 to 43 square feet), and I’m looking for ways to make the best use of the Ikea Platsa modular furniture system there. My main goal is to maximize the use of this limited space to create storage without making the bathroom feel cramped. I’m considering combinations of base cabinets, wall cabinets, and possibly open shelving, but I’m unsure about the best way to implement this—especially regarding moisture resistance and easy cleaning in the bathroom. Does anyone have experience with using Platsa in a practical and space-saving way in a small bathroom? Are there any tips on configuration, door or drawer options, finishes, or maybe combining it with other Ikea products? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

- Start by measuring the room precisely and draft your bathroom furniture plan on millimeter paper or using Ikea’s planning software.
- Use base cabinets with fronts that are moisture-resistant, such as melamine-coated doors. Painted or veneer fronts are usually not ideal for damp environments.
- For a small bathroom, I wouldn’t suggest tall wall cabinets, as they tend to visually reduce the space. Instead, shallow wall shelves or open compartments above are practical.
- Drawer options often work better in small bathrooms because they utilize storage space more efficiently and make it easier to stay organized.
- A good tip is to avoid placing modules directly on the floor; instead, mount them on the wall so you can clean underneath more easily and the floor won’t be damaged by moisture.
Do you already have a specific room layout or measurements you can share? That would help provide more targeted suggestions.

Ikea offers different depths, and in narrow bathrooms, you should prefer the 30cm (12 inches) depth over the larger options. This helps maintain enough room to move around.
Additionally, using mirrored fronts is a good idea. For example, you can use cabinet doors with mirrors that visually enlarge the room while still providing storage space.
Installation is also important: wall mounting is recommended due to moisture, but the wall should be stable and moisture-resistant. Proper sealing on the walls prevents damage to the furniture.
If ease of maintenance is important to you, I recommend smooth surfaces that can be easily wiped clean with mild detergent. Textured or heavily matte surfaces may hide moisture better but are often more difficult to clean.
