Hello everyone,

I am planning to optimize my living space using Ikea Besta systems, arranged in an L-shape for maximum storage capacity. Specifically, I want to know the best way to position and connect the modules to ensure both stability and optimal use of the room layout.

The main points I am interested in are:
- Which Besta components are best suited for the corner combination?
- Are there any special assembly instructions for joining the modules at a 90-degree angle?
- How can I prevent the lower units from sagging or becoming unstable due to weight?
- Has anyone had experience with additional reinforcements or corner connectors?

My idea is to have furniture that offers as much storage as possible without appearing too bulky. Tips on shelves, drawers, or doors in the L-shaped setup are also welcome.

I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

To create a stable L-shaped combination with Ikea Besta for maximum storage space, I recommend the following approach:

- Preferably choose 60x40 cm (24x16 inches) or 60x60 cm (24x24 inches) modules, as these are the most flexible.
- For the corner, use a special end/side panel from Ikea, or alternatively an open corner module to design the corner smoothly without breaks.
- Connect the individual modules using the original fasteners (screws and angle brackets), paying attention to the load capacity of the drilled holes.
- If needed, use metal brackets for additional reinforcement underneath the modules when storing heavier loads.
- Install reinforced base panels if storage for heavy items is required.

Drawers and doors can be combined as desired; drawers reduce space for large objects but improve organization. Doors provide a tidy appearance.

I can only agree with that. It is also important, when using an L-shaped combination, to keep the depth of both sides consistent to ensure a seamless appearance and usable storage space.

Additionally, I recommend paying close attention during the installation of the connecting elements to make sure the modules are positioned at a perfect right angle; otherwise, there will be fitting issues with the doors or drawers later on.

Simply secure the modules with the angle brackets from Ikea. For stability, install additional brackets at the bottom. The corner module can also be self-built or you can use continuous trim strips.

Hey, that sounds like a great project! I built an L-shaped combination with Besta about six months ago. Tip: definitely use the extra-long corner brackets – they hold really well and give you the necessary stability.

And don’t worry about the strength – I had doubts at first too, but the construction can support a lot of weight!

Good luck, you’ve got this!

For maximum stability, be sure to install additional metal brackets at the lower connection points. This prevents sagging. Corner modules are not strictly necessary; it also works with two Besta cabinets screwed together at a 90° angle.
