Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a large Ikea PAX wardrobe and want to make the sliding doors childproof because my toddler is very curious, and I want to prevent the doors from being opened or slid open.

I am particularly interested in whether there are proven methods or special child locks that are easy to install and do not cause any permanent changes to the furniture. It is also important that the locks are reliable without making it difficult for adults to operate the doors, as we use them daily.

Does anyone have practical experience or recommendations on how to effectively childproof Ikea PAX doors, possibly with advice on materials, fixtures, or alternative solutions?

Thank you in advance!

You can use special cabinet locks designed for child safety, which are easy to attach to the doors.

Alternatively, magnetic or clamp locks can be useful to prevent children from opening the doors.

Make sure they are well-made and do not pose any risk of injury.

For childproofing Ikea PAX sliding doors, I recommend the following approach:

- Use child safety locks from specialty retailers, specifically designed for sliding doors, which are usually available as two-stage locks or latches.
- These locks prevent the doors from being pulled open and can be installed without tools. Look for products with good customer reviews and verified child safety certifications.
- Alternatively, you can equip the sliding tracks with special stoppers to prevent the door from opening fully.
- Especially with PAX, a combination of several safety measures is advisable, as a single system alone may not be sufficient.

It is also important to regularly check the locks to ensure they are securely in place and maintain safety over time.

There are child safety locks with self-adhesive backs that cause minimal damage to the furniture while still providing reliable protection.

Use child safety locks from specialist retailers, especially those suitable for sliding doors, which are usually available as two-step locks or bolts.

These are proven in practice but should definitely be matched to the door’s weight to ensure stability. I also recommend padding edges with soft material to prevent injuries from sharp corners.

Additionally, parents can ensure the contents of the PAX wardrobe are organized to be child-safe (e.g., no hazardous items within reach). A comprehensive solution combines mechanical locks and safe storage.
