Hello everyone, I am considering installing our Ikea PAX wardrobe in the children's room as well, but I am concerned about the safety and child-friendliness of this furniture. My specific question is: How can I make the Ikea PAX child-safe so that the doors do not slam shut dangerously, the wardrobe is tip-resistant, and my children’s curiosity does not lead them to access things they should not touch too quickly? I have already thought about door dampers, anti-tip devices, and lockable handles, but which solutions have proven effective, and how can I implement them in a practical and visually appealing way? I would appreciate any tips and experiences.

Hello rabuleo, this is indeed a very important question, especially since PAX wardrobes are often quite large and sturdy but can still pose certain risks for children. My tips for making it child-friendly include: - Soft-close door dampers from IKEA or third-party suppliers that gently slow the doors to prevent little fingers from getting pinched. - Anti-tip devices to securely fasten the wardrobe to the wall, which is crucial because children love to climb! - Special childproof locks or safety latches for the handles, which can be easily removed as the children grow older. - Inside, you can use lockable boxes or containers to store potentially dangerous items. And one more tip: if you like, you can also decorate the interior with colorful boxes or labels, making the wardrobe not only safe but also attractive and easy to organize for children 😊.

- Install tilt locks at the top and bottom of the cabinet.
- Fit door dampers to prevent finger pinching.
- Equip handles with child safety locks or use recessed handles.
- Store hazardous items in lockable boxes.

I understand your concerns well, rabuleo, because while PAX is stable, this also means that tipping over can have serious consequences. A secure wall attachment is therefore essential. Ikea provides suitable anti-tip brackets that you simply mount to the wall and attach to the wardrobe. Regarding door slamming, you can either use the included door dampers or, if needed, purchase additional ones that close especially softly.

Another option is to make the handles safer: there are special accessories like child locks, or you can temporarily fit soft grip covers that prevent children from easily opening the wardrobe doors.

If there are items inside the wardrobe that should be kept away from little hands, it is advisable to use lockable compartments or even electronic child safety locks that open with a code.

Last but not least: a sturdy rug placed in front of the wardrobe can prevent children from slipping on smooth floors and reduce the risk of injury from the wardrobe.

Door dampers and tilt locks are usually sufficient.
For handles, it’s better to choose ones that do not protrude too much.
Use lockable boxes for hazardous items.

Make sure the cabinet is securely screwed to the wall. Door stoppers or dampers help prevent finger injuries at the doors. Handles with child safety features are definitely advisable.
