Hello everyone, I am currently exploring the IKEA Platsa system as I want to maximize storage space in my apartment while staying as flexible as possible. My question is: How can IKEA Platsa furniture be effectively combined to make the best use of the available space, especially in small or unusually shaped rooms? I am thinking of practical tips for combining cabinets, drawers, shelves, and also making use of corners or niches. It would also be important for me to know if there are special installation options or accessories to maximize storage capacity. Perhaps there are clever tricks for vertical expansion or integrating inside door organizers or similar solutions. I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Great question! The PLATSA system is really clever when you get a bit creative. My advice is to use the different widths (30, 60, 90 cm (12, 24, 36 inches)) and heights (35, 64, 128, 192 cm (14, 25, 50, 76 inches)) to create modular combinations. This way, you can be super flexible and perfectly fill smaller corners!

To maximize storage space, it’s a good idea to build tall units up to the ceiling. This uses vertical space efficiently, which is a huge advantage in small rooms.

You can also create flexible storage solutions with shelves, drawer inserts, and baskets – and the optional interior lighting helps keep everything visible.

A little tip: you can add extra shelves or pockets on the inside of the doors – great for small items or household accessories. Don’t hesitate to mix different elements! Enjoy your project 😊

The modular design of PLATSA allows for custom tailored solutions. For small or uniquely shaped rooms, it is recommended to plan and use combinations based on precise measurements:
- Choose depths of 35 cm or 58 cm (14 inches or 23 inches) depending on available space and storage needs
- Combine base modules with widths of 30 cm, 60 cm, or 90 cm (12 inches, 24 inches, or 36 inches) according to the area
- Use 192 cm (75 inches) high units for maximum vertical space utilization
- Incorporate corner modules where angles are present
- Add drawers for easy access to smaller items

Assembly options allow combining wall-mounted and floor-standing units, ensuring stability and adaptability to windows or radiators. Internal accessories help maintain organization. Careful planning with the IKEA PLATSA app or a design tool is essential to achieve the best possible use of space.

Absolutely, planning is everything! I would like to add that you should also consider the aesthetics when aiming to combine maximum functionality with appealing design. For example, I have dark floors and light walls, and someone recommended using dark fronts so the units don’t appear too bulky.

Also, it often helps to mix different door and drawer fronts to create a visual rhythm – this makes the space feel airier, even if you have a lot of storage.

Another tip: rolling containers or boxes that can be slid under the units make storage even more flexible and mobile.

It would be interesting to hear if anyone has tried this with PLATSA and can share tips on colors and materials!
