It is important to me that the baseboards not only look good but are also securely attached and collect as little dust as possible during cleaning. I am wondering which fastening method you would recommend for the Metod baseboards, especially with regard to easy installation without the need for specialized tools. Do you use the original IKEA connectors, or do you have a better alternative that can be mounted discreetly? Also, what about corners and transitions – are there any tips for joining the baseboards cleanly? I would appreciate your experiences and advice, as I want to save as much time and hassle as possible!
Hello ariandi68, great project! I love it when you can really work well with IKEA furniture. 😊 For the Metod baseboards, I can only recommend using the original click connectors. They are really easy to install; you only need a screwdriver and no extra anchors or anything like that. Just attach them to the back of the baseboard and then clip them onto the cabinets – they hold really securely! For the corners, you can get small corner connectors that make the transitions neat and stable. A small tip: if you cut the baseboards to the right length beforehand and smooth the cut edges with fine sandpaper, everything looks much more polished. And don’t worry about the gaps – with a little patience, it fits together perfectly! So, grab your screwdriver—you can definitely do this! 🎉

For the Metod baseboards, I can only recommend using the original click connectors. This recommendation is generally sensible, as the click connectors are specifically designed for the Metod series and ensure easy installation. However, when installing, attention should be paid to the levelness of the floor and the base cabinets so that the baseboards fit neatly later on. Unevenness can otherwise lead to visible gaps.
IKEA offers suitable corner connectors for the corners, but these are not always ideal if the cabinets are not positioned at an exact 90-degree angle. In such cases, precise angle adjustment and accurate measuring are advisable.
An alternative fastening method, if screws into the cabinet carcass are not desired, is to use mounting adhesive or strong double-sided tapes. However, these methods are less reversible and require the surfaces to be very clean and dry.
Finally, when attaching the baseboards, one should also consider future accessibility in case maintenance work on the kitchen cabinets is needed.
Hello ariandi68, I also believe that a clean and stable installation of the baseboards in the IKEA Metod kitchen is essential – both for appearance and functionality.
As a complement:
- It is worth aligning the cabinets perfectly before attaching the baseboards and using a level and spacers to create consistent gaps from the floor. This will make attaching the baseboards much easier and cleaner.
- The click connectors mentioned by Lucki are indeed good, but you should install them carefully to avoid later warping or loosening. A small tip: after assembly, gently check the connections and adjust them if necessary.
- For the corners, besides the IKEA corner connectors, you can also cut the baseboards at a miter joint and join them with strong wood glue and small corner brackets, which can be especially useful for irregular angles.
- If you have issues with dust and dirt accumulating under the baseboard, you might consider installing an additional stop edge or mounting the baseboard slightly angled, which reduces dust falling in and makes cleaning easier.
I hope this helps! If you have any questions about tools or cutting techniques, feel free to ask.
