Hello everyone,

I am considering getting an IKEA PAX wardrobe. However, my bedroom is quite small – it measures only about 2.80 m (9 ft 2 in) wide and 3.20 m (10 ft 6 in) long. So my question is: Does PAX also fit well in small bedrooms?

I am especially interested in whether PAX can maintain a good sense of space despite the compact room size, or if the wardrobe tends to feel too bulky. I am also curious about design options, such as sliding doors or customizable interior fittings. Has anyone had experience with PAX in small bedrooms and can share how it affected the use of the room?

I would really appreciate tips, opinions, and specific experiences!

PAX can be easily adapted to smaller rooms because you can freely choose the width and depth.
It's best to go with sliding doors, as they save space when opened. Inside, you can plan flexibly with shelves and hanging rails, making it efficient.

Hello yigitli,

Your question is quite complex because several factors influence the PAX wardrobe in small bedrooms:

- Room size vs. wardrobe dimensions: The standard depths are usually 35 or 58 cm (14 or 23 inches). For small rooms, the 35 cm (14 inches) option is better to maintain more free space for movement.

- Height: PAX wardrobes can reach the ceiling, which is great for maximizing storage, but it can also feel overwhelming visually. Tip: Doors in light colors or with mirror finishes help make the room appear larger.

- Doors: Sliding doors or hinged doors affect usability. In small rooms, sliding doors are almost always the better choice.

- Interior fittings: Modular components like baskets, drawers, and hanging rails help use the space efficiently.

Additionally, you should carefully plan the room walkthrough before purchasing. If you want, I can assist you further if you provide the room measurements and preferred arrangement within the room.

Conclusion: PAX is customizable enough, but without proper planning, it can quickly clutter the space.

Absolutely! I also chose the 35cm (14 inches) depth for my small bedroom, and it really helped the room from feeling cluttered. With mirrored sliding doors, everything even appears much bigger – I tried it and can definitely recommend it.

You can really notice how much extra space you gain, even when the wardrobe looks large.

Hello yigitli,

I would like to share some structured tips for PAX wardrobes in small bedrooms that have been very helpful to me:

- Wardrobe placement: Position the wardrobe along the longest wall to maintain enough space for movement.

- Depth consideration: As mentioned, a depth of 35 cm (14 inches) is ideal. The 58 cm (23 inches) version usually only fits well in larger rooms.

- Doors: Sliding doors save valuable space when opening, especially if the wardrobe is close to other furniture.

- Optimize interior fittings: Use drawers, hanging rails at different heights, and baskets to make the most of the space. Make sure no corners go unused.

- Colors: Light colors or mirrored doors enhance the sense of space.

- Clearance: Plan for at least 60 cm (24 inches) of free space in front of the wardrobe so it can be easily opened and used.

If you like, I can also help with the specific planning to make sure it fits perfectly.

Hello yigitli,

I want to add that PAX is also very suitable for small bedrooms if you pay attention to the details. Especially because of its modular design, you can find custom solutions.

It often helps to use the IKEA planner (or other room planners) before buying to get a sense of the proportions.

Even if you extend the wardrobe upwards, you should consider how you will use it – sometimes an additional drawer system is better than just hanging rails.

You should also consider how much storage space you need. Sometimes a too-large wardrobe in a small room can be more of a hindrance because it feels overwhelming. A more compact solution is often better.

If you like, you can write more details about your room here, and I can give you more specific advice.
