ᐅ Is it necessary to have LAN cables installed in the garage?

Hello

I wanted to ask what the essential use for a LAN connection in the garage would be?

Our electrician is reluctant to install a Cat cable in the garage.

He is charging twice as much as for a Cat cable inside the house (€500 in the garage) just for a Cat socket.

Why do you absolutely need LAN in the garage?

Wallboxes usually all support Wi-Fi anyway.

We are also planning to install photovoltaic panels later on.

You are the clients, aren't you?!

What kind of restrictive contract did you sign? Whether EL wants it or not,... they insist on the empty conduit without Cat cable. If they’re worried about air passing through, they can put a blanking plug or cork on it. Please be persistent and don’t let yourselves be led around by the nose during the construction; I already feel sorry for you.

We have a standard builder’s contract.

Anything beyond the standard must be discussed with the partners and commissioned as a special request.

The prices will be set by the partner or the electrician themselves.

We have to accept the current situation as it is.

Again, my question: what are your opinions and experiences?

Will a single access point in the living room cover the garden area of 11m by 20m (36ft by 66ft) and the garage with Wi-Fi (extreme speeds are not necessary), or should we definitely keep the option open to install another access point near the garage or in the garden shed?

Also, it would be good to have a LAN cable for the wallbox.

Why does it have to be a patch panel in the garage? A double socket outlet would be sufficient there as well.

The garage does not require a patch panel.

The patch panel will be installed in the basement. We have installed four Cat duplex outlets in the house.

= 8-port patch panel

Now the only question is whether we still need Cat cabling in the garage or not.

If yes, we would need a larger patch panel, the 12-port version.

But you had already included the patch panel in the 500 euro cost – or how should the post 25 be understood?

I would definitely run LAN cables there now.

Our router is located in the utility room and has to transmit across the house—about 15 meters (50 feet)—and then another roughly 20 meters (65 feet) to the farthest corner of the property. Reception gets weak there. But we don’t have a signal booster in the living room either. Even so, the signal easily reaches the next-door neighbor.

Regarding the garage cable: go ahead and install it! €500 is expensive but still manageable, even though it’s quite a rip-off. By the way, if you’re working with a developer, you can also coordinate the electrical trades to keep markup costs under control. That’s something you arrange directly with the contractor.
