Hello

I wanted to ask what the essential use for a LAN connection in the garage would be?

Our electrician is reluctant to install a Cat cable in the garage.

He is charging twice as much as for a Cat cable inside the house (€500 in the garage) just for a Cat socket.

Why do you absolutely need LAN in the garage?

Wallboxes usually all support Wi-Fi anyway.

We are also planning to install photovoltaic panels later on.

I can’t think of any compelling reason either.

I would definitely do it.
Wallbox, cameras, photovoltaic system, radio, television, ...
Wi-Fi in the garage is usually pretty terrible.

€500 is quite expensive, especially if the garage isn’t very far away.

The garage is attached directly to the house.
Right on the other side of the living room.

Question: Would the access point in the living room provide enough Wi-Fi coverage in the garden? So that there is still sufficient Wi-Fi signal at the far end of the garden?

The garden is approximately 11 x 20 m (36 x 66 ft).

I would also install at least one outlet there, if only to be able to place an access point later.

So, should we not skip the CAT socket in the garage?

Do wallboxes necessarily need to be connected to the LAN?
