Hello everyone, I currently have the IKEA KALLAX shelving system and am considering whether the SKUBB storage boxes work well in it. Specifically, I’m interested in whether the boxes fit into the KALLAX compartments, how snugly they sit, and if they can be easily pulled out without getting stuck or wobbling. It would also be helpful to know if the SKUBB boxes, made from lightweight flexible material, provide enough stability when used as a drawer substitute, or if it’s better to use more rigid boxes instead. Has anyone had experience with the SKUBB boxes in the KALLAX shelving unit? Thanks in advance!

The dimensions are compatible, but it should be noted that SKUBB boxes are flexible due to their fabric material and therefore do not have the exact rigid outlines of hard-sided boxes. As a result, they fit snugly but are not completely rigid, which has the advantage that they can be easily pulled out of the compartment without much resistance. They provide stability for light to medium-weight items, but with very heavy contents, the soft box may give way or deform.

The SKUBB containers are made from a thin polyester fabric with a light wire frame around the edges. This design usually helps them maintain the right shape in depth and width but allows some give on the sides. As a result, they are more flexible than plastic boxes. When pulling them out, depending on how full they are, the top edge may catch slightly if the compartment is tightly packed or the boxes are overloaded. The material is washable and breathable, making them suitable for textiles. However, they are less suitable for heavy books or larger equipment since the shape gives under weight and the material is not reinforced. Overall, SKUBB boxes are ideal for lighter organization, especially with clothing or paper.
For those looking for details: The SKUBB boxes measure 33x38x26 cm (13x15x10 inches), roughly fitting the 4-compartment KALLAX with an internal dimension of 33x33 cm (13x13 inches). Their flexible sides allow for easy adjustment to the compartment. Important: Don’t overfill them to ensure a smooth fit. Alternatively, the KALLAX compartment can be modified with an additional divider or KALLAX insert if the box fits too loosely. They are not suitable for heavy loads like books, as they do not maintain their shape under such weight.
