Hello everyone,
After reading and gathering information here for several weeks, I am now ready to participate actively.
We plan to build a house of about 190 m² (2,045 sq ft) plus a double garage in Saarland in 2015.
For this, we have ordered some catalogs from national suppliers and also requested individual quotes. In the end, based on a recommendation, we found the regional company DHI Planen und Wohnen in St. Wendel. They work exclusively with local craftsmen and specialist companies and have built over 400 houses in the last 14 years.
If I understand correctly, I would sign a contract with DHI, who then prepare an offer for the entire construction project and purchase all the building materials. The individual trades are paid directly by me to the craftsmen (according to the offer that was included in DHI’s overall quote). This is said to have the advantage that in case of warranty claims, I can hold DHI liable (because of the contract with them), and if they become insolvent, I can still pay the craftsmen directly.
Has anyone here had experience with the company DHI or can share insights about this billing model?
Thank you and best regards,
Jochen

Hello everyone, I’m chiming in again.
Regarding the installation of the insulation, I can only say that it is quite time-consuming.
We did it over the Easter holidays and managed to complete it from Thursday to Sunday with three people.
Best regards,
Philippe

Hello everyone,
sorry Jochen, I somehow missed your question. I also had a week off and, as you can probably imagine, was at the construction site from morning till evening.
Regarding the insulation... everything seems to have gone well, from what I’ve read.
We’re now working on the interior finishing. The ceilings were insulated and the vapor barrier was sealed by the drywall contractor. Last week, we installed the battens and gypsum boards, and now we are wallpapering the ceilings (non-woven or fiberglass fabric) and painting. The move-in date is set.
Wishing you continued success!
Best regards, Timo

So, I’m checking in here as well! After successfully completing our civil and church wedding ceremonies scheduled for the end of August, we now have an appointment for a consultation/planning meeting with DHI, or rather, someone from DHI will come to us. We are really looking forward to seeing how DHI might (hopefully) differ from other companies.
Hello and congratulations from us as well (unknown user),
I will start with the insulation tomorrow. The plasterer has finished the interior, and on Wednesday work will continue on the exterior. Tomorrow, I will discuss with the heating engineer how to proceed to ensure our deadline of November 30th (move-in) is met.
As with Jochen, there are occasional issues to discuss with the door and window supplier (DHI), but everything is within the normal range, so at this point, I can only offer my recommendation.
Greetings from Heusweiler, where it is currently 33°C (91°F).

Report on Floor Insulation:
In short, I’m completely exhausted. After crawling on my knees for 12 hours every day, getting up, cutting, doesn’t fit, getting up, cutting, doesn’t fit… eventually it fits, and then there’s still gluing...
Of course, I picked the week with the best weather and drank what felt like 10 liters (2.6 gallons) daily, but never mind. There are still 10 square meters (108 square feet) missing, caused by the material being just barely enough in the end. Nevertheless, I don’t want to do this again anytime soon. Next week the heating installers will come, then the screed, and after that things will continue to progress...
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Best regards,
Martin
