Hello everyone,
After reading and gathering information here for several weeks, I am now ready to participate actively.
We plan to build a house of about 190 m² (2,045 sq ft) plus a double garage in Saarland in 2015.
For this, we have ordered some catalogs from national suppliers and also requested individual quotes. In the end, based on a recommendation, we found the regional company DHI Planen und Wohnen in St. Wendel. They work exclusively with local craftsmen and specialist companies and have built over 400 houses in the last 14 years.
If I understand correctly, I would sign a contract with DHI, who then prepare an offer for the entire construction project and purchase all the building materials. The individual trades are paid directly by me to the craftsmen (according to the offer that was included in DHI’s overall quote). This is said to have the advantage that in case of warranty claims, I can hold DHI liable (because of the contract with them), and if they become insolvent, I can still pay the craftsmen directly.
Has anyone here had experience with the company DHI or can share insights about this billing model?
Thank you and best regards,
Jochen

Hello, @Timo, there was still so much space in there.
The house is gradually looking better as the first interior walls get their plaster applied.
@Martin, I think you made the right decision.
Best regards,
Philippe

Hello everyone,
if you are getting a wood stove, I have something interesting for you regarding what you need for operating an exhaust hood (ducted). More details gladly via private message.
Regarding the construction status: the building is weather-tight.
All windows are installed, and the construction door is also fitted.
Good luck
Timo

Hello everyone, how is everything going with you??? The weather is cooperating quite well.
Here, both the interior and exterior walls have now been plastered, and the scaffolding is finally gone. Everything already looks really great.
Over Easter, we will install the insulation for the underfloor heating ourselves, so that the heating installer can directly lay the pipes in the rooms afterwards.
Regards to all!!!

Hello,
that sounds really great!
Today, despite the awful weather, our ground floor ceiling was delivered. Tomorrow morning, we will mark the electrical layout on the ground floor.
We also plan to install the insulation for the underfloor heating ourselves. You could share how that worked out for you. I’m really looking forward to doing some hands-on work myself.

This morning, there was a lot of activity at the construction site. While we were planning the electrical distribution, preparations for pouring the ground floor slab were being made above us. Just as we finished the electrical planning, three more electricians arrived and immediately got to work.
The slab is scheduled to be poured tomorrow around noon. It’s really great to see how everything fits together so smoothly.
@ Timo and Philippe: Did you hold a topping-out ceremony?
