Hello everyone,
After reading and gathering information here for several weeks, I am now ready to participate actively.
We plan to build a house of about 190 m² (2,045 sq ft) plus a double garage in Saarland in 2015.
For this, we have ordered some catalogs from national suppliers and also requested individual quotes. In the end, based on a recommendation, we found the regional company DHI Planen und Wohnen in St. Wendel. They work exclusively with local craftsmen and specialist companies and have built over 400 houses in the last 14 years.
If I understand correctly, I would sign a contract with DHI, who then prepare an offer for the entire construction project and purchase all the building materials. The individual trades are paid directly by me to the craftsmen (according to the offer that was included in DHI’s overall quote). This is said to have the advantage that in case of warranty claims, I can hold DHI liable (because of the contract with them), and if they become insolvent, I can still pay the craftsmen directly.
Has anyone here had experience with the company DHI or can share insights about this billing model?
Thank you and best regards,
Jochen

Hi guys,
Question: who here has a Schiedel Absolut chimney in their house?
And further, how did the individual steps for assembling the chimney look?
We are currently challenging the DHI and their contractors with seemingly unsolvable problems regarding the proper installation of the chimney. Two inspection shafts at the bottom are clear, then there is a round hole about 2.30 m (7.5 ft) high. The chimney is already plastered, and a plastic bag with around 20-25 individual parts (including a silver ring with a mesh – the largest part inside) is lying on the floor, and nobody can explain what it is or how it should be installed. The exact quote is: “...these chimneys are installed thousands of times in DHI buildings...” so congratulations on that.
A quick response would be appreciated.
Regards,
Martin

Hello, so we also have a Schiedel chimney. It was installed back then by the masonry company Elmar B. from N. We never had anything lying around here, and at the moment, I can’t imagine what you might be referring to.
Best regards

Hello everyone,
after it was quite quiet in this thread over the past weeks, I’d like to share an update today:
Unfortunately, we had some bad luck with our interior doors, as many of the frames showed paint defects. However, these were replaced without any issues, although the delivery time set us back by about 2 weeks.
Now everything is fine, and we moved in last weekend.
In the coming weeks, we’ll need to sort through all the accumulated items from the past years and complete the move.
This morning, we also had our blower door test done. The result of 0.67 is, according to the technician, a very decent value for a house of our size.
This afternoon, we will be organizing the garage so our cars can move in, and next week we plan to plant about 40 meters (130 feet) of hedge to serve as a privacy screen.
So there’s still plenty to do. When I have the chance, I will try to write a detailed review of our build. To summarize for now: I am satisfied and would choose to build with company DHI again.
