Hello everyone, I am currently planning a kitchen renovation and want to use the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. It is especially important to me that the kitchen units are both child-friendly and highly functional. Has anyone had experience with how to ensure that the lower cabinets and drawers are not only secure against unauthorized access by children but also well-organized and easily accessible for our needs? What design and equipment solutions are available in the Metod series to make everyday life easier with small children without sacrificing functionality? I would appreciate any tips on child-friendly heights, locks, materials, or planning approaches.
Designing a child-friendly kitchen with Ikea Metod sometimes requires creative solutions. In my experience, switching to drawer fronts with integrated handle grooves instead of protruding handles is worthwhile, as this reduces the risk of injuries. Combined with child safety locks and sufficient ventilation in base cabinets, the kitchen remains functional.
Additionally, I recommend placing electrical appliances and hazardous items out of children's reach—ideally in higher cabinets or secured drawers. The flexible interior layout of the Metod cabinets allows for interesting customizations in this regard.
