I have a set of four IKEA Inreda spotlights that I want to connect directly to the main power supply. There is a connection for a power cord to the socket.

Can I connect the transformer directly to the power cable? I hope so, but I’m not sure how.

Can someone help me with this?
Thanks,
Trixiheise

I found this:
Ansluta power cord - IKEA

It seems I can use this to connect the transformer to a socket.
Could I cut the cable before the toggle switch and connect it directly to the power supply?

Hi 🙂
Your question shows that you have little or no electrical knowledge. If damage occurs due to improper installation, no insurance will cover it!
Ask a local electrician about it; it’s a simple matter and doesn’t cost a lot.

This is feasible if you do it correctly and have a suitable connection available.

Is the cable to the transformer permitted for a permanent connection to the electrical grid according to the regulations?

Where do you want to connect the power?
At the light outlet? Then through the regular light switch? Are there more light outlets in the room, and how are they controlled?
Do you want to switch the ceiling light and the spotlights at the same time or separately? If there is 3-core cable, it’s all or nothing; if there is 5-core cable, you could switch the ceiling light and spotlights separately.
Do you have the necessary tools, like wire strippers, crimping pliers, and cable lugs/terminal sleeves?

The cable itself is no different from a lamp cable. However, the wires are not solid core like NYM cable but flexible, so you need to put cable lugs on before connecting them to terminal blocks or connector clamps.

Why are you making it so complicated? Just use one of those remote-controlled wireless plugs,
then you can simply plug the device into the socket and that’s it. With the remote control, you can switch the spotlights on and off directly from the couch or wherever you want.

All necessary tools are available.
The spotlights replace existing halogen spotlights, there were also four of them and they were directly connected to the power supply.
Basically, the power cable coming out of the wall, to which the halogen lights were connected, is present along with the new 4 Ikea spotlights.
