Good morning everyone,

I recently finished assembling my Ikea Metod kitchen and now I’m wondering how to properly clean and maintain the countertops to ensure they last as long as possible without wearing out or getting stained quickly.

Has anyone here gathered experience with which cleaning products are suitable and how often the countertops should be treated? I’ve read that aggressive cleaners should be avoided, but what should be used instead? And how can scratches be prevented?

I would really appreciate it if you could share your tips for cleaning and protecting Ikea Metod countertops, especially with regard to longevity.

Do the same as Genuan. Use vinegar only in rare cases and not too often.

I have had good experience with regular dish soap and warm water. I avoid scratches by using cutting boards.

Thanks for the advice so far!

I have noticed that the edges of the Metod countertop seem to be particularly sensitive. How do others protect or maintain these edges?

I imagine that moisture can easily penetrate there and cause damage. I would like to know if any special sealants or care products are recommended to keep the edges stable.

Regarding the edges:

These are often covered with an ABS edge banding designed to repel moisture. However, carelessness should still be avoided.

I recommend:
- Always wipe edges dry immediately.
- Do not allow water to pool for extended periods.
- Avoid using harsh cleaning agents that could damage the edge banding.

Additional sealing is generally not necessary but does not necessarily improve results, as the edges are factory-protected.

If small damages occur on the edges, repair kits with edge banding or special adhesives are available for use.

I understand that edges can be a particular concern.

Sometimes it feels uncertain how to handle these areas. I have made wiping down my Metod panel immediately after use a routine—especially around the edges.

The most important thing when cleaning is to be patient: work gently with a soft cloth to avoid scratches and damage.

I also always keep a small sponge cloth handy for corners and edges. This makes cleaning much easier.

Sometimes you realize how much better the panels stay in good condition when you follow these simple care tips.
