Hello everyone, I have glass fronts on my IKEA Metod kitchen unit, which look really great. However, cleaning can be quite challenging, especially with stubborn dirt like grease stains or small scratches on the glass. I’m particularly interested in which cleaning agents and methods can be used to treat the glass fronts gently, while still achieving a thorough clean without damaging the glass surface or the frames. Are there any proven home remedies or special products you would recommend? Also, how do you specifically handle heavily soiled glass fronts to ensure the result is elegant and streak-free? Looking forward to your tips and tricks!

A follow-up question: What is the best way to prevent moisture from getting into the frames of glass fronts or the seals? I want to avoid damage or swelling of the plastic parts. Do you use any special techniques when cleaning or specific care products that help keep moisture out?

Regarding Emirjan-ta's question: To prevent moisture damage to the frames of the Metod glass fronts, I recommend the following approach:
- Never spray directly onto the glass or frame to avoid liquid seeping into the joints.
- Always wring cloths out well so they are damp but not wet.
- Wipe the edges with a slightly damp cloth or, if in doubt, wipe completely dry.
- If possible, carefully dry the edges with a dry cloth after cleaning.
Additionally, plastic seals can occasionally be treated with a plastic care product (e.g., silicone-free) to keep them flexible and prevent cracking. Please do not use oils or greasy substances, as this can affect adhesion.
For heavily soiled areas, spot cleaning is advisable to prevent liquid from soaking in over a large surface.

Marlenepa22 May 2020 08:17I agree with the tips already shared and would like to add that for stubborn dirt, a gentle steam cleaner on a low setting can also be used. However, it is important to keep a sufficient distance from the glass to prevent water from reaching the edges directly.
In general, it is important to take your time when cleaning and to prefer several passes with mild cleaning agents rather than applying harsh chemicals.
If anyone wants to try the effect of micro-scratch polishing: there are special glass polishing pastes that can be carefully tested on small areas using a soft cloth. However, this approach is really only suitable for minor superficial scratches and requires a delicate touch.

Following the detailed suggestions here, I would like to critically point out that we might be focusing too much on theoretical risks.
Could someone please share specific test scenarios, such as a comparison between repeated cleaning with vinegar-water and a pH-neutral glass cleaner after six months of use? I am looking for solid practical evidence, as every household has different conditions and generalizations are often insufficient.
Are there any practical experience reports that go beyond basic recommendations?

Are there any practical experiences beyond the basic recommendations? This is indeed an important point. Personally, I don’t have long-term experience yet, as my glass fronts have only been installed for a few months. Your assessments are very helpful for me to choose the right care method. I will try the mild vinegar solution with a low concentration and proceed very carefully.

A brief addition to Victor54’s request for more practical examples:
I have been using Finnish vinegar solution (10%) for over 2 years to clean my Metod glass fronts and have not noticed any damage. However, I only clean with a well-wrung cloth and avoid any contact of the liquid with the frames.
For small scratches, I haven’t found an effective solution other than very light polishing and working with great care. Usually, regular daily cleaning helps prevent scratches caused by dirt particles.
