Hello everyone,

I am considering using my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets not in the traditional kitchen setting, but as shelves in other rooms such as the living room or home office. My specific question is: Can Ikea Metod cabinets be safely and functionally used as simple shelving units in other living spaces, for example without kitchen countertops or typical kitchen accessories? How do stability, appearance, and possible accessories hold up when repurposing them like this? Are there any practical limitations or other considerations to keep in mind?

I would appreciate any experiences and insights specifically related to using them outside the kitchen. Thanks in advance!

Metod drawers operate smoothly, are sturdy, and can be used for purposes beyond kitchen utensils. Internal drawers are similarly durable. There are no restrictions on use in other rooms.

The Metod drawers are solid but not particularly exceptional. They are rather functional. If storage space is the main priority, there is no objection to using them. However, for high-end residential furniture, they lack comfort features.

It is important to understand that you are still dealing with kitchen furniture designed for function, which is now being repurposed as shelving—so it may not suit everyone's aesthetic preference, but technically it works fine.
