Hello everyone,
I’ve been a long-time IKEA fan but I’m new to the forum. I’m currently moving and planning my first kitchen. Naturally, I would prefer one from IKEA. However, I have realized that there doesn’t seem to be a solution for my problem. I’ll try to explain briefly.
I really don’t have much space for the kitchen. The longer side is 206cm (81 inches) and the shorter side is 140cm (55 inches). The connections for the sink are on the longer side in the corner. The problem is that the stove connections are on the very end of the shorter side. So basically, I end up hitting my back on the edge of the stove when I’m standing in the narrow gap at the sink (an architectural masterpiece!).
My idea: a 90x90cm (35x35 inches) corner solution with a corner base cabinet and a matching worktop for the sink. Then, directly attached in an L-shape, a 50cm (20 inches) wide free-standing stove. So not a corner with two 60cm (24 inches) deep countertops coming to a point, but a 90x90cm (35x35 inches) worktop with a straight “standing area” at the front (specifically for corner base cabinets with sinks). That might just work! On the long side, there would still be space for the fridge (50cm/20 inches wide) and a dishwasher (45cm/18 inches wide).
However, I haven’t found any 90x90cm (35x35 inches) corner base cabinets at IKEA, nor any option to order a matching worktop cut to size. Did I miss something? Other IKEA-compatible solutions for this issue would also be welcome!
Thank you very much!

IKEA-Experte30 Jun 2015 21:39Along the corner, there would be about 286 cm (113 inches) of countertop, and with a galley kitchen layout, 280 cm (110 inches).
Try having a kitchen studio design a plan for you. They offer a much wider selection in every respect.

Lolalotte1 Jul 2015 07:48Hello,
yes, I am still considering the two-row layout. A kitchen showroom is too expensive. It is only a rental apartment, after all. Currently, I’m trying to find out if I can install a sink (maybe a slightly narrower one – a rectangular or round basin would be enough for me) into the 80cm x 80cm (31.5 inches x 31.5 inches) corner cabinet. If that works, it would be the perfect solution for this kitchen layout – but unfortunately, I would have to give up my favorite IKEA front. There would only be an Ivar shelf left on the open side as storage space. However, it offers more storage space than all the kitchen cabinets!

IKEA-Experte1 Jul 2015 12:19A kitchen design studio doesn’t have to be necessarily expensive, and at least you get a professional layout.
If you have the 80x80 cm (32x32 inches) cabinet in the corner, the oven goes to the left along the long wall. The Ivar shelf is 48 cm (19 inches) wide, so there are 92 cm (36 inches) left on the wall. With the oven’s depth of 60 cm (24 inches), you have only 32 cm (13 inches) of space between the oven and the shelf – it might be too tight to open the oven door properly.
If anything, it would probably only work with a 50 cm (20 inches) wide freestanding cooker and 30 cm (12 inches) of space between the stove and the wall.

Lolalotte1 Jul 2015 13:08Ah no, it would be like this: short wall = 80cm (31.5 inches) corner cabinet 60cm (24 inches) stove = 140cm (55 inches) (stove would stay where it is)
Long wall: 80cm (31.5 inches) corner cabinet (on the other side of that) 45cm (18 inches) dishwasher 50cm (20 inches) refrigerator = 175cm (69 inches) (there would still be space for a narrow base cabinet)
Sink integrated into the corner cabinet
On the free wall there will be a narrow shelf so the refrigerator door can still open (for now, I’ll use one of my old narrow Billy shelves)
This would make full use of the room down to the centimeter!

IKEA-Experte1 Jul 2015 13:21Is the corner cabinet available to view online?

Lolalotte2 Jul 2015 08:48Yes, there is. It’s available in the kitchen planner from a competitor (Mömax). However, it’s officially not a sink base cabinet—just a corner base cabinet. I’m not sure if it will work to install a sink in it. On the other hand, why not if I choose a narrower one?
I’m still considering the “dead corner” as well. That would be the simplest solution in terms of countertop material and it would also fit (60cm (24 inches) countertop in the corner + 50cm (20 inches) sink base + 50cm (20 inches) refrigerator + 45cm (18 inches) dishwasher = 205cm (81 inches)) with a 15cm (6 inches) narrow mini cabinet on the other side of the stove. I could also put a nice solid wood countertop from the hardware store on top.
Unfortunately, Ikea still doesn’t work due to the sizes. Has Ikea changed that much in recent years? I haven’t bought furniture there for quite a while. I used to buy only from Ikea! In the past, you could always find some special solution for a small apartment at Ikea.
