Good morning everyone,

I am currently looking for replacement parts for the IKEA Malm bed. I was wondering if there are specially reinforced replacement parts for the Malm series that go beyond the standard original components. I mean things like strengthened bed rails, additional cross supports, or more durable screws and fasteners to significantly improve durability and stability.

Does anyone know of suppliers or solutions that manufacture or sell specially optimized or reinforced replacement parts for the Malm bed? Or at least recommendations on where to find high-quality alternatives that are better than the standard materials?

I understand that many people use the original parts, but especially with heavier use or more intense daily wear (for example, two people using the bed extensively every day), I am interested in ideas for stronger versions or upgrades. Thanks in advance for your tips and suggestions!

Good morning everyone,

one tip from experience: when retrofitting with metal brackets, make sure to use rust-resistant or galvanized versions to prevent rust stains on the wood.

Also, always tighten screws with a torque that does not damage the wood, to avoid the holes tearing out or enlarging.

Hope this helps with your reinforcement.

To add a tip for Urs53: Ikea also offers replacement parts directly in their stores. It might be worth asking there for replacement or exact original accessories.

Additionally, if the bed frame is significantly worn, you might consider replacing the old screws and definitely reinforce the wooden joints with wood glue. This often helps with loosening connections.

The creaking is not the main issue yet; it is more the gradual instability after years of use by two adults

To put this into context: With two adults using the furniture over a long period, the stability requirements increase. When dynamic movement is involved, the joints between the side panels and crossbars experience significant stress. In this area, it is especially worthwhile to add additional metal brackets, as they prevent tilting and the frame from pulling apart.

If you have access to a workshop, installing metal profiles longitudinally along the inner sides of the panels is recommended. However, this requires very precise work to ensure the bed can still be easily assembled afterward.

If you’re interested, I can also provide instructions.

Thank you all for the many tips and ideas!

I will probably try the simple metal bracket solution and replace the screws with stainless steel versions. I will also check the quality of the slatted frame in combination.

If that’s not enough, I would consider adding metal profile reinforcement – thanks for the offer, ronAlberto.

As some of you mentioned: original replacement parts from IKEA apparently are not reinforced. I will ask in the store, but don’t expect much. There doesn’t seem to be a manufacturer offering specifically improved replacement parts for Malm.

Thanks again, I’ll keep you updated.
