Hello everyone,

I’m planning to install a larger kitchen using the IKEA Metod system in the coming weeks. I’ve noticed that assembling these modules, especially the cabinets and drawer systems, can often be quite tricky. I’m wondering if there are any “perfect guides” for the DIY assembly of IKEA Metod cabinets—meaning proven step-by-step instructions or tips that specifically make the installation easier, reduce potential errors, and possibly improve stability.

Do you have any experience or “best practices” for handling this process as efficiently and smoothly as possible? Particularly regarding the order of assembling the components, proper handling of the fronts, and the use of tools.

Looking forward to your opinions and advice!

Hey everyone!

I want to enthusiastically add: Assembling the kitchen can actually be a lot of fun with the right planning! 🙂 My clear recommendation: Get a friend or partner to help you—having two extra hands makes a huge difference, especially when installing the tall cabinet and aligning it properly!

And for protecting the fronts: Tape the edges of the doors with painter’s tape—this is an easy and inexpensive way to prevent scratches!

Finally, a kitchen you built yourself—that’s an amazing feeling!!!

One more practical tip: Lay out all instructions completely, sort all parts, and maintain a systematic approach.

This will save you questions and trouble later on.

I find this discussion interesting because I often feel stressed when many small parts have to be assembled all at once.

Therefore, I would recommend taking breaks, not rushing, and preferably documenting everything carefully, for example with your own notes on the manual.

I find that really helpful – protecting against minor damage is very calming.

I can only agree with FELOTAU. Especially when installing the Metod system, it’s important not to put yourself under time pressure.

Are there any other tips to avoid installation errors with the drawer slides?

Here’s a practical tip: if you test the drawer slides before installation by opening and closing them several times, you’ll quickly notice whether they move smoothly or catch somewhere.

Also, it helps to tighten the cam screws only loosely at first and only fully tighten them once everything is perfectly aligned.

Regarding the sequence of assembly:

First, assemble the main body completely, then secure the shelves. After that, install the drawer mechanism and make sure everything operates smoothly before attaching the front panels.

This helps avoid unnecessary adjustments and damage to the front panels.
