Hello everyone,
I chose the IKEA Platsa system for designing my storage space because its flexibility really appealed to me. However, I’m now facing the challenge of how to use the available storage space as efficiently and practically as possible. Is there anyone here with good storage tips specifically for Platsa? I am thinking of advice on how to organize the interior effectively, whether there are specific organizers or inserts that fit well and genuinely make everyday use easier. Additionally, I’m interested if your experience with assembly has provided any insights that could help improve organization.
I look forward to your knowledge and hope for practical, proven suggestions!

Hello, I can easily understand that using PLATSA at first can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you want to maximize storage space.
Personally, I have used small drawer inserts available at IKEA. They are very helpful for neatly organizing smaller items like cables, batteries, or papers. I also recommend adjusting the shelf heights specifically to fit the items you want to store so that there’s no wasted space and the area is used efficiently.
At the beginning, I was a bit uncertain and tried many different things—since PLATSA is so modular, there are almost endless possibilities. What helped me was to start with the most essential items and gradually complete the system over time.
If you don’t take on too much at once, the whole process tends to work better and doesn’t become frustrating. I also find boxes with handles practical because you can easily pull them out.
Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions!

- Use the original PLATSA interior fittings such as drawer organizers, boxes, and shelves, as these are precisely designed to fit.
- Utilize adjustable shelves to effectively optimize vertical storage space.
- For smaller items, transparent storage boxes are helpful for quickly identifying contents and maintaining better organization.
- Consider installing hanging rails or hooks on the inside of the doors if the system allows; this creates additional space.
- Be careful not to overload the drawer and door mechanisms to ensure the durability of the modules.
Additionally, planning with IKEA’s own PLATSA planning software is recommended to visualize the exact distribution of storage space in advance and avoid purchasing mistakes.

Use adjustable-height shelves to efficiently optimize vertical storage space.Exactly, that’s what I found too. Especially when you have a mix of large and small items, you can save a lot of storage space this way.

BOXE drawer inserts are great, they fit perfectly.I really like these inserts as well, but you should carefully consider what you store. I once stored some small items in these inserts and noticed differences in their dimensions. I think it’s important to not only look at the material but also check the exact measurements. Otherwise, organizing doesn’t work as well. For example, I use inserts with compartments for electronics, while I choose larger boxes for socks.
So: testing, measuring, and then buying deliberately often helps avoid frustration.
