Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the furnishing for my new apartment and considering combining Ikea Platsa furniture with existing kitchen cabinets. My question is quite specific: How can Platsa units, which are primarily known as flexible storage solutions, be integrated aesthetically and functionally with traditional kitchen cabinets?

I am especially interested in how to create visually seamless transitions and whether there are any special tips or compatible colors and materials to harmoniously blend these two types of furniture.

Perhaps someone has experience with such combinations or can offer advice on what to watch out for when measuring, mounting, or selecting fittings to avoid problems later on. Also, how does it work with fronts when mixing different manufacturers?

I look forward to your feedback.

Basically, you should make sure that the depth of the PLATSA furniture and your kitchen cabinets are as similar as possible. Otherwise, the combination may look unbalanced. In terms of color, it helps to choose front colors that are as close as possible or to create a connection through matching handles.

Combining Ikea PLATSA with kitchen cabinets is definitely possible but requires some planning. PLATSA offers various sizes and front colors; however, the fronts are not always compatible with typical kitchen cabinet fronts from other manufacturers.

My tip:
- Take precise measurements of both furniture pieces (width, height, depth). Pay special attention to the front panel thicknesses.
- Use filler strips or panel extensions if there are size differences.
- White or neutral gray is the safest color choice, as it blends best with most kitchen cabinet finishes.
- Consider the handles – a consistent handle style creates a more cohesive look.

Additionally, I recommend checking the load limits of the PLATSA units during planning, especially if you plan to store heavy kitchen utensils there.

Exactly, choosing uniform handles makes a big visual difference. If possible, even from Ikea, as they fit well both in terms of price and style.

Hello niplo,

I combined PLATSA with my Ikea kitchen about a year ago. The important thing is that the depth should be as close as possible to create flush surfaces, which looks much more elegant.

To harmonize the color schemes, I chose white fronts for both furniture pieces. To ensure stability, I recommend securing the PLATSA units with wall fixings—especially if you are combining the furniture with kitchen units that often experience heavy use.

Regarding the transition of the fronts, try to choose matching patterns and smooth surfaces. Matte and glossy can be combined, but matte usually appears calmer alongside kitchen fronts, which are often matte.

Have you already thought about how you want to integrate the appliances? PLATSA offers only open storage, while kitchen units typically include built-in appliances.

Thanks, that sounds helpful! My kitchen fronts are also matte white, so that should work fine.

Regarding stability, I will definitely plan to include wall fasteners—I hadn’t really considered that before.

Good question—I have installed a cooktop and an oven, but only the cooking area is furnished with kitchen cabinets. I want to use the space to the right with PLATSA shelves for storage, so appliance integration is minimal, mostly storage for pantry items and small things. That should work.

From your experience, is there anything that should definitely be avoided? Especially concerning connectors or fittings?
