Hello everyone,

Lately, I have been looking into the IKEA Platsa series and am planning to configure some cabinets with drawers. I have an important question: Are there any practical and well-fitting drawer inserts or dividers specifically designed for the IKEA PLATSA drawers?

I ask because the PLATSA series is quite modular, but IKEA itself does not seem to offer specific inserts for it, at least I couldn’t find any in their store. There are many inserts from third-party suppliers or universal organizers in general, but how does this work in practice?

- Do the dimensions of these inserts fit reasonably well without much modification?
- Are there any recommended products that work particularly well?
- How about stability and material quality?

I want to organize the drawers effectively so that nothing shifts around inside. If anyone has experience with PLATSA inserts, I would appreciate detailed feedback. Thanks in advance!

Hello Blakar31,

I understand your question well, as the PLATSA drawers are indeed somewhat unique and IKEA does not offer specific inserts for them. To answer your questions, I looked into this topic some time ago and tried out a few suitable solutions:

- Dimensions: The PLATSA drawers have a depth of about 50 cm (exactly 50 cm, with slight variations depending on the model), and the width also varies. Standard drawer inserts from IKEA, such as the VARIERA series, usually do not fit directly because they are designed for other “standard” cabinets.

- Third-party options: I have had good experiences with universal modular systems, for example from DIY enthusiasts on YouTube and shops offering flexible plastic or wooden organizers. The possibility to customize by cutting or rearranging compartments is a great advantage here.

- Material and durability: Products made from more durable plastics (ABS or polypropylene) provide sturdy inserts that hardly warp with use. Wooden or MDF organizers often require more precise adjustments but tend to be very durable.

My advice: Measure your drawer dimensions precisely, consider the intended use (e.g., kitchen utensils, clothing, office supplies), and then look for modular inserts with suitable heights. Flexibility is key.

If you like, I can share examples of specific inserts I have tested myself.

There are no suitable PLATSA drawer inserts directly available from IKEA.

I recommend using simple universal organizers that can be cut to size if needed.

Alternatively, flexible plastic compartments with adjustable dividers work well.

Hey Blakar31,

I solved this at home by creatively combining different IKEA inserts – you do have to do a bit of tinkering! 😅

That’s true, but you can usually find something in the VARIERA inserts if you adapt them accordingly. In the end, it’s almost like a puzzle. For example, since I used my PLATSA cabinet for my home office, I combined narrow and shallow inserts for pens and such.

I think the real fun starts once you know your requirements and then select the materials accordingly! And once you find the perfect combination, everything suddenly feels much more organized – what more could you want, right? 😉

Additional Information:

It is true that IKEA does not offer drawer inserts specifically designed for PLATSA.

The drawer dimensions differ from more common series and usually require custom-made or flexible inserts from third-party providers. The main solutions available on the market are:

- Flexible plastic dividers that can be individually adjusted and positioned.
- Custom-made wooden inserts specifically crafted for PLATSA (sometimes as DIY projects).
- Universal inserts that can be adapted by cutting and modifying.

When selecting inserts, it is important to accurately measure the internal dimensions of the drawer; the depth of PLATSA drawers differs from, for example, METOD or Malm. The height of the inserts should also be considered, as PLATSA drawers are often shallower.

Stability and material quality naturally vary. Plastic is usually durable and easy to maintain, while wood is sturdy but may be more susceptible to moisture.

Conclusion: For optimal organization, a combination of precisely fitting flexible inserts and, if possible, DIY solutions is recommended. Generic inserts rarely fit perfectly.

A specific recommendation: Purchase PLATSA drawers, measure them precisely on-site, and then select or have the desired inserts made accordingly.

A quick note regarding your question:

While the PLATSA series is modular, it is not standardized for inserts, and unfortunately, IKEA has not developed a dedicated line for this. This means you either have to use universally available organizers or create custom solutions.

If you’re interested in DIY, I recommend making your own drawer inserts from plywood or MDF cut to size. This is relatively quick and allows for a perfect fit.

Tip: You can also buy a few standard inserts and adjust them with tape, foam pieces, or clamps without having to do a complete rebuild.

I hope this gives you some guidance on how to approach this topic.
